You do know that this is not just a USA forum. Many people never heard of Thanksgiving Day.

I am thankful to have US input into my teaching practice, which, without an international forum, I wouldn't get.
Happy thanksgiving!

Hey, Happy Thanksgiving from this side of the Ocean, too. Enjoy your holiday! I would really love to have one right now ... I too think that it's refreshing and inspiring that people from so many parts of the world are writing in this forum. Mostly, it feels that all the piano teachers around the world are in the same boat , but on the other hand, I see that there are still many differences such as piano methods, etc. Hopefully, this makes us all have an open mind for other ways of thinking about and teaching piano.

Hmm. How to explain Thanksgiving to those who haven't heard of it? Feel free to add to this description:
THANKSGIVING IS:
A day off work on on the 4th Thursday in November. A day to be grateful. A day to get together with a lot of people and eat turkey.
That about covers it, except for the fact that women don't really get the day off because they work to keep mashed potatoes hot and figure out how to thaw and bake turkey.
Oh, and throw in a parade or two in New York.
Stores see it as the kick off to Christmas shopping.
This year I decided to simply see Thanksgiving as a day off and to be grateful. For once I am not travelling. I am not getting together with a group of family or friends. And I'm not lifting a finger to cook. I plan to drop by the Good Foods Co-op for a meal (hubby is invited to join me). If they are closed, I'll have a cheese sandwich and be so grateful for a quiet day off. Read and play piano. Nice!

You do know that this is not just a USA forum. Many people never heard of Thanksgiving Day. Roger, you might be surprised to learn that Harvest Day Festival is a church (Protestant) celebration throughout Europe and has been for centuries. It's usually celebrated the 1st Sunday of October, at least in Germany and I believe also in the Netherlands. The Pilgrims would have been very familiar with this Church festival.

This is the 2nd year in a row we've gone OUT for Thanksgiving dinner, and it's much more enjoyable when you aren't exhausted from cooking all day! Much to be thankful for!

Well, that explains why this forum is so quiet. For some reason I thought you guys had Thanksgiving on Sunday like we do, only a month later. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone down south, today, then!

That answers my question. I was going to ask if they did Thanksgiving in Canada.

This is a good idea. Next year I think I'll invite my parents to go out for Thanksgiving. Opt out of all the work, and enjoy a little company.

ten left thumbs, I'm chuckling at your signature line. I see my advice about an affirmation was not too New Age for you.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.
1. You don't have to buy presents 2. You don't have to buy cards 3. Your only obligation to eat yourself into oblivion and lie semi comatose on the couch for the rest of the day.
Awesome!
However, American Indians view it somewhat differently.

Making the meal is the fun part of the day! It's my favorite day to cook.
