I want to get a vintage Wurlitzer Electric Piano and sound like Ray Charles - but I don't have the cash. Any ideas for a comparable alternative?

I like Ray Charles too, and I have learned to play a few of his famous tunes.

I'd think you could play and sound like Ray Charles (to some extent) on most any decent piano, with a lot of practice. He could make any piano sound good! smile

Thanks, Rick! It's more the sound of that Wurlitzer I'm after...

I suggest trying the digital piano forum here on PW... I can move this thread there for you if you'd like.

Good luck!

A lot of people play Wurlitzer electrics. Few of them sound like Ray Charles.

I wish I had written this! But I will presume to add a little:

Even more people than those who play Wurlitzers, sing. Of those singers, many know the lyrics AND the melody to "Georgia On My Mind". Try as they may, NONE OF THEM sound like the venerable Ray Charles either.

In music, everything one does correctly helps everything else.

If you want to sound like Ray Charles just lie very still and don't make a sound...

(sorry!)

I am not a pop music fan, but that beautiful song always gets to me, especially the way Ray sang it. Kudos to Ray and Hoagy!
