My daughter is playing Light & Blue in her lesson book and really likes it (as well as similar pieces in her other lesson books in the past). I'm not sure what would be considered similar in piano so she can listen for more fun.

Any ideas?

You could always buy an extra book for her to mess around with that comes with a CD.

There are 6 books in each genre, plus 2 in the advanced version I think. Each comes with a CD and the songs (I think) sound great. So she could listen and learn too.

Thanks for the book suggestion. We are trying Pandora to find different bits of music. Hopefully it will lead us to something she wants to add to her playlist.

ETA Just heard Fats Waller - that sounds up her alley...

Hi, Maggie. You can also check out Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Bill Evans for starters. Fats Waller is more earlier jazz from the early 1900's. If that is what your daughter's ear is drawn to then you could look for recordings from around this period. She might also enjoy other instrumental recordings (saxophone, trumpet). If you're still not sure just google early jazz recordings, top 10 early jazz pianists, etc.

I should be more specific when I say early... between the 30's to 50's (Unlike classical music, Jazz was evolving at least every 10 years!)
