plan your recitals? I may have to schedule my December holiday recital in January due to unavailability of recital halls! Many of my students will play Christmas music. I know a teacher who had her recital in January and she said it was wonderful and very relaxed. I appreciate your opinions or experience.

I think a January recital would be lovely! Ours is in December before the holidays, but no holiday music is played.

I should have been clearer - I originally had scheduled the holiday recital for the first week of December, but due to the rescheduling of my Halloween recital (due to Hurricane Sandy) and missed lessons this week, I have to move the holiday recital to January, as there are no other available dates in December, and students will not have enough time to adequately prepare.

I think people will be happy as long as there is a recital. Christmas music in January won't bother most people.

I held one recital when I was teaching. I only had 13 students. I had to keep pushing it off because people cancelled, a couple students weren't adequately prepared because of lack of practice (literally never touched the piano between lessons, which were only 30 minutes long, where she talked forever...adorable but not a good student), etc. But, in the end, I finally managed a day that worked for 11 students and held the recital. It was short and sweet - and in the end, everyone had a great time. That's what really matters.

Don't worry so much about the date, I think.

Mine is December 14th. It's usually in the form of a party, held at my studio, but this year I had to rent a hall because we are in the process of moving. I booked it last January!

I used to sing in a chorus that always had its holiday concert after Christmas, for Twelfth Night. It was nice to be able to do it after the holiday rush. People may appreciate having the recital when they're not so busy.

Eastern Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas on January 7, so early January would be perfect!
