Living in 'sunny' Florida for most of my life, I know what a hurricane can do, never mind combining it with the nasty mix of the cold. Keeping all of you in our prayers this evening and the days to come.

I live in Ohio, 500 miles away and we're feeling the effects of Sandy already, it's been raining and windy all day, getting worse by the hour here. I'd hate to be in NY right now, I've read that 1.5 million people are without power.

It will be at its peak for us in a couple of hours.

We've had drenching rain and wind gusts in the 40s all day. They predict wind gusts up to 70 in the next few hours. Wind already sound like a freight train coming!

So far...so good. Power is still on and no flooding. We closed the stores for two days.

Prayers for states further north. They're getting the brunt of the storm, NYC in particular.

Glad you're okay, Steve, and I hope everyone else weathers the storm without harm too.

Thanks Nancy,

We were lucky and didn't lose power. Looks like we're going to be "shower central" to friends and family for the next few days.

I was just stunned to see the destruction (on the news). We had fairly high sustained winds and some amazing gusts last night. I never lost power but my parents, in the next town, lost theirs this morning after everything was over and the sun was almost coming out. Some towns along my route to work were out, some not. Our storm surge was very small compared to NY/NJ.

I have family in Southern Ct and NYC and appreciate your thoughts, thank you!

Glad to hear from some of you & most importantly that you're doing fine. We're still getting quite a bit of wind here in Central Florida.

Keeping up the positive thoughts and wishes.

Here in Ohio we have 180,000 people with no electricity. Chili, muggy day, the winds have all died down, but everything is still wet....supposed to drizzle for a couple of more days yet. It got pretty windy here last night, 66 mph gusts were reported. Lake Erie was very choppy last night, waves were coming up onto the freeway. It's amazing that we felt it here 500 miles away from the center of it all ...

I finaily have power after three and a half days with out. My piano needs some severe tuning since the DC system has been off and the temp in the living room has been in the mid 40's since Tuesday. A small price to pay since I had very little damage to my house. Although my neighbors on both sides, and most of the neighborhood has suffered a lot of damage.

I have a brother in Philadelphia (Bustleton) and a good friend just outside of Wildwood, NJ. Both are fine and no damage to their homes.

There's an interesting Bloomberg Businessweek cover story this week.

djwayne, Any excuse for Chili is good with me. Whats in your mug on a muggy day can really make the difference.

Good to hear that everyone is well. Beyond some still lingering electric outages, we were very fortunate in my neighborhood.

Hi all- the devastation on Long Island is truly horrendous! In some cases there is no home to go back to after owners were evacuated. It just broke apart because of the wind and tidal surge. I live near the bay. At 10:30 pm Monday the bay surge was making its way down the block and within five minutes it surrounded my house. Luckily I only had water in my crawl space but none reached the house or my Kawai 6' 1" grand.

On top of that, today's Nor'easter is bringing snow! It is cold outside. Please pray for those affected.
