Does anyone else watch this incredible TV show?

Everything about it is perfect - the music (of course!), acting, cinematography, location, atmosphere, plot. Honestly, it's flawless.

Cheers,
James

Love Treme!! David Simon is awesome. And I'm always trying to cop piano licks from the music scenes.

Yes, I watch it, although I do find some things confusing - no doubt due to a lack of understanding of the culture. Not a Nord in sight, either.

I agree, David Simon is a genius.

I absolutely love the variety of music and culture presented in the show - really makes me want to spend time in New Orleans!

Melodialworks Music, I mostly spot Rolands, however I've seen a Nord Electro 2 on a couple of occasions. No Kawais though, sadly...

Cheers,
James

Yep, well spotted!

It didn't sound too great, although that may have been because he was a little 'rusty' after working on the fishing boats. Still, a big improvement over that horrible keyboard he used to tote around with Annie!

Agreed -- that old keyboard was sad. And Sonny is still "in no danger of being like no great musician."

Apparently there have been Nords, which I've missed.! Maybe they were painted black! I'll have to start watching for them.

Some old uprights, though. Played with passion, but not much of a sound . . .

Nah, they're definitely red - you can spot them a mile away.

I recall seeing an Electro2/3 in the first season when Sonny is looking at instruments in a music store, and again in the second season when Davis' band is practising at his house.

I am seriously falling in love with New Orleans because of this show. I have always had a little something for the state of Louisiana (nothing is more beautiful to my ears than my native language spoken with the beautiful cajun accent and I could (and did) listen for hours to Zachary Richard singing about this part of the world. But since I started watching Treme, this curiosity and fondness slowly turned into a real love and immense desire to be able to see this city and live in it for a while before I die, walking behind a second line and be for a few hours part of this wonderful community who gave birth to the music I so deeply love smile

Great post!

I too would love to visit the city for a month or so, just taking in the history, culture, food, and music.

Such a great show!

In spite of how much I love all the music scenes, which were fantastic this week as usual, sometimes the restaurant stuff is so great it makes me laugh out loud:

Janette: "You know, Derek, you are a very unusual man."
Derek: "What I am, chef, is a m***********g professional."

In the beginner section of this forum, there is a post called "you know you are a piano addict when...". I think "Treme" is also very addictive and recently I added a couple of New Orleans radio station to my favorite list on my iRadio and it seems that, at least spiritually, I kind of moved to Treme smile
I hope that they won't cancel the show on us too fast, it would really feels to me like loosing a bunch of friends and I would really miss them smile

After each episode of "Treme", nola.com posts "Treme Explained", a detailed & very helpful list of references. Here's the latest one:

Jean-Luc, according to Wikipedia, HBO have renewed Treme for a shortened fourth and final season, so unfortunately it looks like we will be losing our NO friends in the near future. ;(

I'm a big fan of NO music, and find it particularly satisfying when I recognise tunes being played on the radio or in Ladona's bar. wink

Wow, nice, thanks for the heads-up pelf!

Cheers,
James

James, you're very welcome. I grew up in New Orleans but need "Treme Explained" to understand many of the references.

Kawai James, this is a really sad news frown Why do they always cancel the good shows. I know it's always better they get canceled before they get "worn out" but in my opinion, this was in no risk to happen to "Treme" any time soon frown
Pelf, thank you very much, this will be very useful to better understand the show smile

Jean-Luc, I don't believe HBO are cancelling the show. Actually, I seem to recall reading somewhere that David Simon originally envisaged the programme to have four seasons (i.e. three years after Katrina).

James

Just an amazing episode. Favorite scenes: Annie and her band tracking "This City"; and that beautiful, quiet moment when Toni shows up at Terry's FEMA trailer with a Pilsner Urquell peace offering. Great music, great writing, great acting!

One of my favourite shows of all time!

The look that Jacques gave Janette after she shouted at her kitchen staff was priceless, while Ladona's visit to see Albert brought a tear to my eye.

Just perfect.

Yeah, he nailed it!

The season-ending montage was fantastic - up there with the fourth season of 'The Wire'.

Perfect TV. I'm looking forward to watching it all over again once the DVD is released.

It's a shame that the finale season will only be five episodes, and then we must bid farewell to these characters that we've grown to love.

A bit off-topic maybe, but a hidden way to bump wink

I just listened to an album by Winton Marsalis and Eric Clapton called: Play The Blues Live From Jazz At Lincoln Center.
I really recommend it if you are in need of a little "Treme" injection smile

Same here, that's why I enjoy so much when the music bring me back to it. I also very much recommend an album by Allen Toussaint called "The Bright Mississipi", you just can't listen to it without having pictures of "Treme" flashing back in your mind smile
Lol, I guess we are now addicted and we need our "musical metadone" to hold on until next year (or until we put a blue-ray in the player)

James,
thanks a lot for bringing this subject on this forum. Honestly speaking Treme was a starter for me to listen more to Jazz or Jazz-like music -- as to me, Jazz looks like an ocean of music of various kinds. Thanks! :-)

Thanks for the heads-up!

Wendell Pierce was on Bill Maher last week, so I had a feeling Treme was coming back - can't wait! wink

I purchased the first and second season box sets a few months ago - need to pick-up the third soon!

Such a great show! wink
