Can anyone explain to me why the number of bass notes is different on the different models of Mason and Hamlins.. does it mean 'single string' notes?

I suspect it means the copper/or brass wound strings that are strung over the rest of the strings like this: Inside a Grand Piano The larger the piano, the fewer bass strings that are overstrung.

North Hollywood CA.
They are refering to the # of actual bass NOTES in that particular scale. The # of bass notes do not necessarily correspond to the # of wound strings(copper) that are strung across the bass bridge. Ex.The # of wound (copper)strings in a recent scale of a M&H "A" is 42 wound strings though it only has a 26 note bass which consists of 10 singles and 16 doubles which equals 42 total Are you confused or what?
The more vintage scale M&H "A" had 44 wound strings with only 8 singles and 18 doubles I recall. Memory is fading lately laugh
