From what little I know of contemporary Chinese(or perhaps all Asian) piano music it seems that a huge number of pieces are meant to depict nature or at least have titles that are related to nature. I don't know if these pieces were written during the Cultural Revolution or after that period or both.

Some examples:

Yiruma The Sunbeams...They Scatter

Yiruma The River Flows in You

Takimitsu Rain Tree Sketch

Yundi Li Far Away Clouds Chasing the Moon

The amazing George Li play Sunflowers

Lang Lang Yellow River Concerto
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI53ynG7hSo

Lang Lang Silver Clouds Chasing the Moon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3JT5giyVMM

Can someone explain/talk about this connection between Chinese music and nature?

I think music of all cultures is commonly inspired by nature. For example, most of Scott Joplin's rags were named off of some sort of plant. It's almost as if he thought of a tune whenever strolling through a park, or buying from a farmer's market. lol
