god, it's just so much easier to play with one hand, just play it with one..... the others are just so unnecessarily confusing. It's really not that hard once you get it.

All I said was that it's actually easier with one. Don't like it? Ignore it.

Pogo, Pogo!

Can we get you at least to amend that to, it's easier that way for you? grin

If it weren't, why would so many many pianists over the years, including world-class, have divided it, and why would people so avidly be looking for better ways to divide it?

Playing piano isn't an objective science, Pogo.

I think this depends on the size and shape of your hand, and what technically difficulties you prefer/are better at.

I don't know - I always thought Chopin wrote quite pianistically. Not like Franck, for example, where you need ten hands...

what's with all the hate, mr. joe? Take it easy.

Sure! (Usually anyway.)
But how does that relate to this subject?

I mean, I think I know: You're assuming that if Chopin wrote it that way, it meant that he was necessarily thinking of it being just for the right hand.

That's not necessarily right.
(In fact, I think it's absolutely wrong as an assumption, but figured it would be better to put it a little more cautiously.) grin

BTW, I don't see any "hate" or anything close to it in Joe's post. Maybe you don't realize, but your post had been kind of harsh, and (I think most would feel) overly absolute. His reply addressed that.

If I had to guess, it's because you don't have any new videos up.. wink

I sincerely apologize for my scandalous behavior..........

Anyway, I tend to go with the mindset that most times, composers knew what they were doing hahaha....

Can't tell if you're 100% kidding or only 90%. smile

If the latter....I guess you're saying that if we think the notation doesn't mean he necessarily intended the whole thing is to be taken with one hand, we're saying he didn't know what he was doing.

We aren't.

It's just a different view of what he meant or didn't mean with the notation -- and not an uncommon one.

BTW, Derulux was just being funny and saying basically that we love your playing and seeing your videos, and so the only thing anybody might be mad about would be not seeing enough of them, because they're so beautiful.
But he didn't mean he thinks anybody is mad about anything. smile

I'm not a Chopin expert at all, so I have no idea. Just speaking about composers generally. I've often found that when you divide something between two hands, it makes it difficult for it to sound like one. I get why people do it, I've done lots of that stuff before, I just try to avoid it now, that's all. I consider it the lesser evil =)

Very true!!
Indeed that's an extra challenge of dividing between the hands, and a reason to hesitate to do it.

I was afraid of that. ha

Please just realize that many people have a different idea than yours about what a composer necessarily intended with such a notation.

In fact, for what it's worth, in case you might think it's relevant, there are some places in Scriabin where it is clear that he didn't mean it as you might have assumed; even though something appears on the page at first blush as though it is all to be taken with one hand, you can't.

I think I'm aware of that...

Like I said, not an expert on Chopin, just wanted to express my thoughts since I've played the piece.
