Some of you may recall I bought a C6 around a month ago. Last week a yamaha tech (Tom Kaplan) came out and made adjustment to the action. The piano sounds quite nice to me right now when played una corda but still too bright when played normally. I've said as much to Tom and he is coming back out at the end of the month to focus on the hammers - presumably some light filing /shaping through the middle octaves along with voicing.

The piano is still louder than I would like. I went to a lesson yesterday and my instructor told me I sounded "hesitant" playing a Bach Invention and I told him I had been trying to practice very quietly at home. His studio has a G3 that is VERY quiet - I've been meaning to ask him what makes it so quiet.

Otherwise the piano has been a pleasure. After less than a week of playing it I went back to my Roland RD-500 (which I played exclusively for over ten years) and it sounded awful. Didn't take long to get used to the richness of the real deal.

I still need to find a way to record it and then perhaps I will post a piece or two. Be warned however that I am not a very good player, at least not yet.

You are probably better than you think... smile

Sometimes I think I can play pretty well until I hear someone else play who really knows how... smile

We will look forward to hearing your recording and the progress on your piano voicing.

Rick

Again, you simply can not get a better technician with as much high end Yamaha experience than Tom Kaplan. He will proceed slowly and carefully, as he should. It may take a couple of visits but it will be done right and I predict you will be very happy with the result.

Trust him.

It sounds like you prefer a mellower sound and need Tom to do some hammer voicing, not just adjusting the action.

In my experience it would be important that you be there and be able to give him feedback during the voicing so he can find out what sound you're looking for.

Do that and you should enjoy your new piano.

have you made any adjustments to your room's acoustics? did you ask your tech about that? as i recall from your photo the room was very 'live'
