I am going to purchase one of these two digital pianos for a "quiet time" practice instrument at home. Other than the Kawai being a cabinet model versus the Yamaha being a "slab", they are pretty similar specification-wise.

I would be interested to hear any opinions or experiences with these pianos that might help me decide. I will say at present I am leaning towards the Kawai, but I won't be inspecting either one until tomorrow.

Can't speak to the Kawai, but there are lots of folks on here who can.

The P60 has been discontinued for some time now, and seems to have been replaced by the P95, which has now been replaced / updated by the P105, which has been pretty well received so far.

Do you already have a source on the P60? New old stock? eBay?

If you wanted to move further down the food chain, they also just released the P35, but that may be too down-spec for you...but as long as you're looking...

The new Casio slabs ( 150 / 350 ) are also getting a lot of interest.

Both the Kawai CN290 and Yamaha P60 are rather old, and while they may have been reasonably high specification models at the time, these days I expect a brand new Casio PX-150 will offer a superior playing experience.

Unless you're getting an incredible deal on the second hand instruments, I would advise going for something a little more modern (i.e. within the past five years), or brand new, such as the Casio.

Kind regards,
James

Don't buy the P60 if you want to use it as a controller for software piano's.
The MIDI velocity range is limited between 1 and 100 instead of 0 and 127
