The incredible piano artistry of Stan Whitmire on one of the most beautiful songs to ever come out of the movies...

This is why I keep practicing...but not even in my wildest dreams...

What are you checking out these days?

Listening to Leszek Mozdzer's latest album, "The Law And The Fist" from "Komeda" - a tribute to Krzysztof Komeda, Polish jazz pianist and movie-score composer. Beautifully sad and melancholic, with hints of hope. The piece is 11 minutes long so give it time to grow on you! Not quite jolly Christmas music LOL smile This guy is amazing.

I've been listening to this video of a Wim Mertens song, "Not Me," somewhat compulsively the past week. It's rather different than his usual stuff. The first time I listened to it I thought the vocals were way too weird... what with the slight lag, or whatever it is they're doing to the two voices in the production, trying to listen to the words is like trying to catch a wisp of smoke. I'm still not positive what language they're speaking, and it may not even be the same one. After about the tenth time I watched the video, though, I broke down and ordered the album.

She's probably one of the best stride pianists on YT, and one of the best and most talented who play and compete in the "ragitime circuit".

That was great, not really my kind of music, but I did enjoy it, crazy hands! thanks for sharing.
BTW, what is a 'stride pianist'? I have very little knowledge of musical terms, or much of anything piano related actually :-/

No, I never heard of Stan Whitmire before either, and found him by accident (serendipitously) while searching for vocal versions of "Through the Eyes..."

For those of you who, like me, want to hear more here's his website:

At this particular moment in time, this is my favorite thing in the world:

I'm not 100% sure, but that might be Glenn Gould playing the Prelude to Partita 1 in B flat major

Not piano related; this is something I'll be singing in a couple of weeks so I looked it up. Just beautiful (not sure we can quite match the vocal blend of Polyphony though):

  • Debussy - Le Petit Nègre, L. 114
  • Haydn - Sonata in Gm, Hob. XVI/44

Mark, I love that tune. A 'Tears for Fears' original. I have my own version of it I play once in a while.

Here is the piano video that has me in awe as well as puts a lump in my throat. What an incredible performance and to think someone turned on a shop vac at the 1:30 point!
