I'm trying to put a little of what I call "stabbing" chords into my playing. Perhaps there's a better term for this, but here are some examples of what I mean:

Starting at 1:35

Starting at 7:08

Starting at 2:12

Can you supply some better examples of this style of playing? Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Al

Thanks. Yes Red Garland seems to do it a lot. Here's another example:

In most cases the stab comes just ahead of the beat, often with this pattern:

If anyone is attempting to find examples of these in written transcriptions, they would be notated, without triplets, as follows:

|| eighth rest, eighth note (perhaps tied to a quarter note on the second beat, a quarter note on the third beat with a "house roof" over the top of its head, an eighth rest , and an eighth note (perhaps tied to a quarter note on the first beat of the new measure) | measure of rest :||
