Hi MonkeyMark,
of course you qualify! I'll just put you down as a late start - I'll put 2 weeks ago as your start date.

Congrats on your new baby - boy? girl? Your child will grow up with wonderful musical memories !!!!

Thanks for that. Yes, i'm hoping they can grow up with music in their lives.

Our newest is a boy. He was in hospital for a few weeks at first but now he's 5 months and doing well. Must need our heads looking at. He's number 4. The last is only a year older, so its a busy house right now.

4 kids, 2 under 2 year old! wow. That has to be challenging (and not only with regards to sleep!)
It must have been scary to have your little one in the hospital - and wonderful to have him home and thriving now!

I never got my full 4-hours in yesterday. frown I only managed 2.5 hours before work. I had such a bad day at work that after I had finished I just went home, and instead of practising, ate some pizza and crawled into bed. Tomorrow will be better.

2.5 hours is still a pretty significant amount of plying/practicing time.

As far as MOYD goes, you're still very much on track!

And from the other extreme, I hope 10 minutes in the morning & 10 in the afternoon still counts - it was all I managed yesterday. Today should be better!

Yes, that counts! Even if you had only managed 10 minutes ONCE, it would count.

Consistency is the name of the game..... get to the piano every day!

I need to go on the excused list for Saturday & Sunday. I took my wife away for her birthday to Savannah (lovely city!).

There was a baby grand in the hotel lobby which I know was working because they had a cocktail hour with a pianist each evening. She played "standards" - very nicely too, though she did trot out mostly the same pieces each night. But we were too busy for me to sit down and bang out my tunes.

  • Debussy - Le Petit Nègre, L. 114
  • Haydn - Sonata in Gm, Hob. XVI/44

I am back from the US, and back on the piano bench! It was a great trip, and I was fairly lucky weather wise. I just missed the big snow in Seattle, although I did catch the floods in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Our family was high and dry though. Missouri gave me pretty good weather for January. No snow or ice! I visited my Mom for her 82nd birthday. Now I can't wait to get back up to speed with my piano pieces!

Played everyday in January.
One down and 11 more to go!
I've really gotten more practice time in this past month than I had previously.
Even on the "playing" days I've done a few scales for warm up.

Only did 2.5 hours today, I debated on doing more but my practising wasn't going as well as it should and since it is now midnight and I don't really foresee it getting any better in the next hour and a half I figured I may as well stop before I do more harm than good. I really shouldn't have put off my daily practice to so late an hour today. I also missed my Sunday practice, definitely not happy about that either.

Did you miss Sunday due to being away or sick? if so you go on the excused list - otherwise on the "Back on the Wagon".

I just didn't practice on Sunday. I knew I was going to have a pretty terrible day at work (which started in the afternoon) and I just wasn't motivated to do much of anything prior to leaving for work, which included practising.

I am pretty sure this doesn't warrant putting me on the "excused" list for Sunday, nor would I want it too. Does that mean I 'fell off the wagon' on Sunday and then on when I did my Monday practising I was 'back on the wagon' (I am kind of unfamiliar with the MOYD terminology)?

I think I am going to start a blog which just lists everything I practice each day and for how long. I find it far too easy to cheat MOYD (if you don't mind me saying so). A blog might help circumvent this.

That's right, you can't be "excused". You fell off the wagon. smile
I will put you back on smile

As far as it being easy to "cheat"--- we work on the honour system. If someone doesn't report, ...well, we won't know -but they will. I figure anyone who "cheats" at MOYD is to be pitied rather than chastised.

There are a number of people who don't bother reporting in on missed days - but then they don't put the MOYD badge in their signatures either - so they aren't cheating, they are just not reporting.

We're a support group, not a policing entity smile

And for those of you just tuning in, while our friend PPP sets his (her? sorry, I have no idea) bar high at 4 hours per day, that is by no means the standard.

Our goal is to get to the piano every day.
Most find that if you sit down thinking -ok, I'll get in at least 10 minutes of scales.... you inevitably manage to do a bit more and as the year progresses, it pays off.

One month down, 11 more to go! Yesterday was a rough piano day for me. Instead of practicing I just played through the songs I knew and tried to play through those that I'm working on.Taking the day off of practice and just playing around instead of accomplishing something seems to help me with my frustration levels.

Well here is that practice blog I said I would create, documenting everything I practice and for how long. There is only one entry so far, but I've got to start somewhere. Feel free to leave comments on it.

I am so happy to find Piano World. What better way to start my posting than signing up for MOYD 2012? I don't know how much time I will be able to play every day, but would love to at least play every day! I already have an out-of-town trip planned sometime in early April, but I will do my best to make the "excused list".

Just received an used piano as a birthday gift from my husband and best friends... Waiting to find out if it is tunable.
