This past Saturday travelers in Philadelphia's 30th St. Station got a surprise from hundreds of singers, dancers, and instrumentalists. This flash mob sponsored by The Opera Co. of Philadelphia, was one of their "Random Acts of Culture". I am proud to say that my daughter was one of the singers involved in this event. Check it out:

You might notice that we provided the pianos.

You can never go wrong with Carmina Burana. It works its magic anywhere! It really needs a full orchestra though.

Enjoyed this Rich. Thanks for supporting their efforts.

Wow! What a great idea. Fabulous! Additional superlatives escapes me at the moment. Thanks for posting that. The world could use more random acts of culture. grin

I totally agree John, but under the circumstances this was the closest they could get. Besides, if they had been able to arrange an orchestra they would not have chosen our pianos. smile

That was fabulous! I'd love to see even a small version of that here!

Two pianos, three percussion and a tympani! Interesting instrumentation. Wish they could have focused on the instrumentalists more and the dancers and crowd less - still a great event. smile

This one was posted by Dan Silverwood in the Tuner/Tech forum and I thought I'd move it here for all to enjoy.

Another Random Act of Culture

It's amazing what you can get from a coin-op vending machine.

Wow!

Marty that was moving. The music was great but I thoroughly enjoyed the crowd, especially the little girl that climbed the light pole to see!

Thanks!

The little girl on the lamp pole was my favorite too!

There is something about classical music flash mobs that I find actually thrilling. I don't know whether it's the generosity of the participants, the delight of the crowd from the oldest to the youngest, the realization that a random crowd can appear to be as awed by the music a I am, the idea that the greatest music can excite people, the fun of the surprise element, or...?
