Love the Arthur Alexander, Newman. This number has been in my current rep. for a few months now. I thought I posted it a while back but can't find it (*). He was a big favourite with John Lennon who admired his vocal technique. I think the Stones covered this one many years ago when The Beatles did Anna (Go To Him).

(*) I did find some Joe Bonamassa and it reminded me of this...

Great postings everyone! It's my first day back to work after a week of vacation. Lots of projects are piling up on my desk, I'm so sure! Before I get going, I've been listening to some music by Duke Ellington. Here is one of his many popular hits, "Take the A Train." Off to work I go!

Hi all!

I wanted to post about cabaret music, specifically about music produced in Berlin, during the Weimar Republic. I was listening to the singer Ute Lemper singing these cabaret songs the last weekend on the radio, and loved it.

The voice of this woman is so proper to this music.

I've to cut the lawns this evening.

This is one of a few Neapolitan songs I annoy the neighbours with when I'm out on the ride-on.

I just love the passion and melodrama of these songs.

Canta ll'auciello dint''a casa antica
addó' primma cantave pure tu...
E sento pure 'a voce 'e n'ata amica
ca mme cunziglia 'e nun te penzá cchiù!...

Carmè'...
Si aggio lassato a mamma mia pe' te,
si t'hê pigliato 'a primma giuventù...
pecché,
nun tuorne a me!?

Mme pare ca è cagnata 'sta fenesta
'a dó' vuttaste 'o primmo sciore a me.
E n'ata rosa, 'a dint'a n'ata testa,
mo mme cunziglia 'e nun penzá cchiù a te...

Carmè'...
...............

E passa 'a notte, passa 'o juorno, 'a sera
ma stu turmiento mio nun vò' passá...
Passa pure 'sta luna che è sincera
si mme cunziglia sempe 'e te scurdá...

Carmè'...

A bird sings by the old house where you once sang
And the voice of another friend tells me to think no more of you

Carmela,
I left my own mother for you
you took the springtime of my life
Why do you not come back to me?

excellent Recaredo, this is a wonderfull and exciting time in history, it is so sad to me that the events of WW2 put paid to it all.

Many artists faded away into partial obscurity and this is such a shame.

I still cannot understand why it just didnt kick off again after the war, as it was so popular at the time?

Wayne - loved your posting - I didn't know so many could fit around a piano and all be creative at once. The only thing missing is Michael Bouble (?) hitting it like a drum.

Recaredo I really liked Ute Lemper - the voice seemed to have maturity and bags of personality - and would have been sufficient even without any instrumental backing, I feel.

Rossy, BillyO likes something called "stoner metal." It's also slower metal, and bands such as Kyuss and Neurosis are in the genre. Check 'em out.

I love Cabaret! I like the musical better than the movie.

Joel Grey was in this cast. This is my favorite!

I know little about the genre, but I'm sure it's awesome!

well dudes and dudettes. it looks like all the mets are in and will be posted up this sunday on RST.

Griffin will be taking a much needed rest from his classical sunday postings, so we will have five RST "regulars" renditions of Phillip glass's Metamorphosis one through to five instead.

I think we all owe Griffin a very very large THANK YOU GRIFFIN for all his classical sunday postings that have made our sundays brighter and sunnier for so long and in such good taste.

THANKS GRIFFIN> a marvellous job, may you continue to make sunday here on RST a magic day of the week.

I’ve finished the first part of Mikrokosmos II. This method by Bartók is being really helpful to me to improve my sight reading and rhythm on the piano, but the best thing is I’m falling in love with this music.

Now time to the second part.
