I wouldn't expect the performances to be streamed - they did the streaming for 2005 Chopin's competition as well, and no love for the amateur competition at all. But maybe something will be different this time. I remember they promised to release the recordings of the performances last time, and nothing happened in that department either  M.

I also notice the left hand accents are missing in Fontana. Anybody heard them in performance? I bet not.

Just curious - has anybody here purchased the complete Edition Of Study Scores Chopin 2010 (red.: Jan Ekier, Paweł Kamiński)? Or do you usually purchase one volume at a time?

1. Wow, the amateur Chopin competition is going on right now! Keeping all our illustrious PW-ers in mind.
2. I think those accents in the Fantaisie-Impromptu more or less take care of themselves, but thanks for bringing them to our attention. I'm practicing this piece again, making progress, but I can only play up to tempo for a few measures at a time before breaking down in some way. Still not at Sam's level of achievement with it!
3. I didn't even know the Edition of Study Scores existed....
4. Is anyone here currently playing 48/1, or remembering their process of practicing it in the past? Any wise thoughts about dealing with those big LH chords in the middle section? Are you arpeggiating all of the ones that can't be reached with all the notes simultaneously, or playing some of the notes as a block and then jumping up to the rest? (Did that question make sense? I'm afraid maybe not.)

I hope it's OK to say-- I exchanged a couple of brief notes with LA, and he was at that point getting along well with the competition and enjoying the local food.
Waiting with bated breath to see how our folks end up (and they're all winners as far as I'm concerned having accomplished all this).

Yesterday I had the good fortune to borrow an unusual Chopin album from, would you believe, my harpsichord teacher. It’s Janusz Olejniczak playing an 1831 Pleyel that belonged to Chopin. Unfortunately, nothing is said about the piano except that it was in a private collection. Since the album appears to be unavailable, I’ve put one track where you can listen to it. I chose the “Revolutionary†Etude because it shows the characteristics of the instrument especially clearly: 10/12 on the 1831 Pleyel I just love the c.19th pianos- the sound is so much better- particuarly in the bass notes. I cannot define it, being a beginner I haven't the terminology but my ears and soul recognise some special quality in those bass notes. I have a CD of Sam Haywood playing another of Chopin's Pleyels- it is wonderful! I think Pleyels are the most amazing pianos.Those bass notes wow wow wow! Thanks very much for the upload Elene- I am always looking to listen to antique pianos. So you have a harpsichord then? While searching for that album, I found that NIFC has put out one with Olejniczak playing 1848 and 1849 instruments: Polonezy, Mazurki, Nokturny You can listen to tracks on their site. However, the album can be purchased for less through Amazon, and perhaps other places as well. Elene I shall be visiting this shortly! Would you like Sam Haywood's website url? You can listen to excerpts.

I didn't either... It is probably better to buy the single volumes separately though. Apparently their editions are the best. I think some of you have the Mazurkas?

LisztAddict had a great competition and made the finals, in which he played: Polonaise #4 (C minor) Scherzo #1 (B minor) Ballade #2 (F major) Our members Hakki, Jibbers, and Fuzzy8balls made the finals also, and I just missed -- would you believe, they actually have an award for being the one who just missed! Great week for PW!

Frycek and I have just returned from another visit to Valldemossa. It was wonderful to sit on the terrace of Chopin's 'cell' (really a pleasant and spacious room) and see the view he must have seen, albeit amidst more sunshine.
