My wife has been pressuring me to learn this for a couple of years now, but I keep telling her I don't have the "emotional makeup" to play this well. I may take this on as my next "project piece." Have there been any study groups for this piece - here or in other forums? smile

Also, anyone else with experience on this? Advice is welcome!

Well, I play it. Don't know if it's complicated enough to justify a study group. It's a not so hard piece with a few harder passages. Definitely doable. Just give it a shot.
The cadenza at the end is a lot easier than it looks.

(As a side note, I grew up in a little hick town, and my not so well qualitifed teacher always referred to 9/2 as "Chopin's Nocturne," like Chopin had only ever written the one and that was the only nocturne ever written smile )

Slow down and do it right.

Hi CebuKid, I like your/your wife's pick. Oddly enough, towards the end of the Chopin e minor prelude study, I dropped a request for this very piece:

I'm not sure if there have been others already. If you have not found, then I would say unlikely. But, I have this one on my to do list now too. So, perhaps we can compare notes when we get to it.

For now, the study groups are securing a better foundation and we are looking at binary formats which I believe to be a precursor to compositions like this.

What I might suggest though, is to follow along with the current study groups (by all means dive in with questions) to get the hang of it. Also, start working on the piece in small measures. Some of these are not as tough as they look/sound.

Take a look at Richards comment here on how he suggested I approach Bach (from Binary analysis thread.) Following this format (of course you need to have the drive and patience for it) I believe you will be able to concur most anything with time and practice.

If you join us on the threads, we'll have two votes for this one now.
