hey guys i just want to know what is a better choice
kawai k-50
or
kawai k-48

1)which is better in touch

2)which has a right and mellow tone

3)which has a good bass and treble

4)which do you prefer(other models)

The K50 was a good upright built to a quality standard and not necessarily price driven.
It has better hammers than the K25. The keyboard has ebony wood black keys and coated key tops for texture.
The keys are weighted and it does have a much better balance than the K25 keyboard.

On less important features; the K50 has a nicer cabinetry and double brass wheels caster.

I'm not familiar with the K48
The K50 is 49"
The K25 is 48" I'm thinking that what you referred as th K 48 is a 48" upright for the Asian market.

I think your first three options are a matter of personal preference.
I know what touch , sound and feel I prefer through many years of playing different pianos. I love the K Kawai. If these are digital models I would not even try to compare to an acoustic.

I have a Kawai K48A upright... but it is an older model (1969). It has a lovely, rich tone, and actually has "K Kawai" on the fall board like a grand.

I figure it is because it has the same fall board as a grand. And, it has the real, one-piece ivory key tops.

How old are the models you are looking at? Kawai made a K50 in 2 different eras of different design, quality AND in different markets.

Kawai's model numbering system is by far the most complicated and plentiful of any maker I know of. So you'll have to be more specific...photos, serial, height from Kawai are actually more valuable than model in some cases.

If the pianos turn out to be quite old, original quality will be much less important than current condition.

For the sake of conversation, here are a couple of pics of my Kawai K48A. I like the cabinet style, walnut satin finish, the big music desk and the grand type fall board. (sorry for the large size pics causing a big window... but re-sizing digital photos is not my strong point. )

The keyboard looks perfect. Are those the original ivory key-tops?

This piano reminds me of a 52" I saw at a Kawai store in Japan.
They didn't have that model available for North America. It was very nice 52" upright.

Yes, the key tops are the one-piece, real ivory. I guess that is what they used on that model back then...

The key-tops look fairly white in the pictures, but they are actually pretty dirty and need a good cleaning (something I have not got around to yet). The real ivory seems to attract dirt (and oils) off the fingers and absorb it in into the grain of the ivory more so than other key top materials.

Anyway, I like this piano more than any upright I have had, in spite of its age.

Just goes to show that good quality up front lasts a long time.

Well done! It just shows that, as with people, we should never reject any piano just because of its age!
