The MX80 was made in Thomaston. GA and was a decent quality piano. It is 43" high...a cosole.

Unfortunately the player sysytem used floppy disks and cannot reasonably be upgraded.

The price is a tad high, but after all, it is an "asking" price. You should ask them to have it tuned before you go out to see it.

If it can take a tuning and hold it, you may be able to run a laptop into the midi input, then you will have infinite piano rolls available via internet. If you can't put a midi cable into it, maybe not. It sure looks attractive. I have an older digital Clavinova, and I just play my computer through it. Still fun to play manually as well.

He wouldn't tune it, so what is a good asking price?

It looks so nice, that I would almost spend $200 or less to try to tune it with a qualified tech. It looks like a heck of a deal. If any piano is deemed untunable by a reputable teck, then , In my book, it's worthless. Best of luck on this beautiful piano.

$2,000? That is a steal. I would purchase it in a heart beat. Yes, the MX80 can be easily upgraded by purchasing the Yamaha DKC-850 Disklavier Control unit. The DKC850 allows one to store music content via USB (Flash, HardDrive etc…). You can also store all of Yamaha Disklavier floppy diskettes (PianoSoft, PianoSoft-Plus) to its internal Flash memory via a USB floppy drive. The MX80 could also serve as a MIDI controller. The DKC850 would have to be setup as “ADD ON” via its setup menu for it to work with the DKC5R control unit.

Good Luck,

To be honest, i don't really care too much about the disklavier, im more interested in the quality of the piano. I double i'll actually touch the disklavier. In the piano world, how do you weight which piano or model as being good? i looked up the model for reviews but didn't' get much?

I'd pass on the 43". Go with at least 45".

Don't rush into buying anything until you feel more comfortable. Spend a few months reading this forum to gather more information. A good thing to do would be to read "Piano Buyer" which is clickable on the left side of this screen. It is also available in a print edition.

Then, buy something which sounds good and feels good to you.

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

from a negotiating point of view i would use the fact that it's out of tune/ hasn't been properly serviced (and therefore won't sound very good) as a reason to offer substantially lower than $2k.

an hour's drive is nothing -- i flew from chicago to LA to audition my C7.
