My dog barked in my ear and i now hear all tones 3 cent lower in my right ear. It makes my piano sound like [censored]. The dog barked in my ear 5 days ago and it hasent still faded away. Will i have this problem the rest of my life? If so im gonna get depressed.

Yes, this is a common affliction for pianists. Don't even bother asking a doctor.

Well, at least you're playing the piano and not conducting a choir and trying to get all of them to sing perfectly in tune!!

when you say three cents lower , what does this equate to in semi-tones, for instance if it was a minor third lower it may help with harmony..... or you could hold your dogs mouth against your other ear whilst feeding your dogs dinner to a cat it doesnt like and just wait for it to bark and even up the unequal temperament?

not much use for western music then. I would stick to Indian or possibly Chinese, failing that, cultivate your enjoyment for out of tune pianos. (Only you will hear them correctly pictched)

Or listen to programs like the X factor where all will suddenly sound well. For once. lol.

Proof, then, that his bark might indeed be worse than his bite, at least for a musician!

That's not a good idea I think laugh I have perfect hearing in one ear so if i tuned the piano up it would sound bad in that ear. I really hope it will go away in the upcoming weeks.

I have no idea if it will go away or not. Please keep us posted. In the meantime, would you consider wearing an ear plug in one ear?

In Oliver Sacks book on music (can't remember the title) I do recall him writing about at least one person whose pitch did change in one or both ears. Can't remember if it returned to normal or not. Or, it might have been only certain pitches were off to the ear.

Not to belittle a potentially annoying condition, but this thread is serious right? I've never heard of such a thing. crazy

My amateur diagnosis - based on previous experience - is that there is some sort of super slight nerve compression going on and it will probably go away during the overnight sleep period.

Being super-sensitive in the hearing department can be an outright pain, especially in these type of real life situations/mishaps.....

Sure - this usually is a lifelong condition. The only possible cure is to have the mangy hound bark loudly in your OTHER ear.....or if you are really concerned about this, go see an Otolaryngologist.

Richter said his sense of pitch changed late in life, but it was in both ears. And he said it happened to Prokofiev, too, IIRC. Maybe playing the piano loudly for years does something untoward....
