Thanks Loren. Being a king is certainly better than being turned into a queen... Speaking of that, aren't we a "jack" of all trades anyway?
You know, you might say, having been made a king is quite an "implant."

De-stringed my S&S O, removed pins, dampers and back action. Removed key bushings-both rails, sanded keybed (someone had painted it) keyframe, prepped keyframe for re-pinning and felt. Was a good day, felt productive. Congrats Les, thats at that time we may take energy for the rest, as this is the "easy" part when we begin and take out everything ! I like that beginning , and I like to go thru most of the jobs without waiting, immediately, the next days ! as at some moment there is a necessity to stop and go outside tuning or whatever...

Drove to a Nazarene church over an hour away to find the door locked. The pastor had forgotten about our appointment and would not answer his phone. His number was the only contact I had for the church. I saw the church's phone number on the side of their van and remembered that some churches will put alternate phone numbers in case of emergencies on their outgoing message...no such luck. I then called the music store that recently sold them the piano to see if they had any additional numbers for the church...they did not. On a whim I called another customer who also attends a Nazarene Church up closer to where I live and asked her if she might know of anyone who attended this church....she DID. She knew a lady now in her church that used to attend there. She called her, and then called me back and told me the lady said to go the the local school and ask for "Fran". So I did. Of course Fran was in a meeting all day and was not available but the superintendent of the school overheard my situation and said his next door neighbor attended the church. So he called him, the guy was actually home and met me at the church and let me in. After finally getting to the piano, it was almost exactly where I left it six months ago. Only a few unisons to touch up!! All this work for a little fine tuning. So the moral of the story ... always get more than one contact number for a church, and if you don't, be sure you are in a small town where everyone knows where everyone else attends church. LOL!!!!!

Ryan, you lucked out! Ask for your own key to the church, then you'll be sure this doesn't happen again.

I do have several churches that do give me a key. Just not this one yet, only my second time to tune there. Might have to ask though. LOL!

I would ask. Look at the amount of time you wasted trying to get in. Could have had one of them tuned by then. Just say, "I request a key to avoid any future mishaps such as this as well as any future service calls due to not being able to get into the building through not fault of mine." It does work...

I was all ready to ask you for contact info for this piano...then I noticed it's missing some sharps. So, no deal! Picky!

Yesterday afternoon I to put the plate back in that small Pleyel vertical, (mod ST - 1950) then put new felt on the plate, controlled the DB, and begin the stringing.
Today I have finished with the plain wire stringing. Tomorrow I'll be finished with basses and I'll put the case back.

Nice job Isaac ... One of the best tuning examples I have heard here .... was beginning to think that good tuners were in danger of being overtaken by the new "Russian" method !!
Did you use cardboard in the wrest pins and a plactrum johnky, one may laugh and spit in my address. But as you wrote "method of Russian" will work, I belive in this. Adherents writes words of gratitude to me everyday. Corrugated shim no ! No one can convince me of this until you are free to link to yours video about this theme. And You must prove counterproductivity corrugated shim on this forum. Satisfaction of other options, I will not accept from you

Today I tuned two Bechsteins, an M and an E.
My bocce team rallied from a 1 to 7 deficit to win 10 to 9 to close out the season.

Doing a concert set up in West Vancouver for Sir Thomas Allen who is an English baritone I believe (or perhaps he is a Scot…) this is part of the Vancouver International Song Institute “SONGFIRE 2012†Remember this thread from a while back? Some thought I had the numbers or dates mixed up. While I am prepping this instrument I will take photos of all the numbers I have found everywhere.… http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1851964/1.html

I had my first experience with a little Ivers & Pond drop action spinet today. It was 150 cents flat. The last time it was tuned was 1999 and the previous tech had noted the he had tuned it 1/2 step flat. I was pleasantly surprised by this little piano. The feel of the pins was great, did two passes, the first with overpull on Tunelab. No strings broke. It ended up sounding very nice. That's the first Ivers & Pond I've seen here in my area.

I think the only Ivers & Pond spinets I've seen have had the dreaded plastic jacks, elbows and flanges.

It wasn't today, but over the weekend I moved a baby grand from Hinckley, California(the town with the hexavalent chromium contamination in Erin Brockavich), to Hemet, CA. The total distance traveled was ~375 miles, and it was hot out there.
So, I'm thinking I want to ditch NPLB1, my moving truck. It's too damn expensive to operate. So, I get calls to move three pianos this week.
Sigh...

All of our local schools are starting back up this coming week and I spent this past week tuning all of their pianos. I've tuned 23 pianos IN ONE WEEK!! That's around 6,000 pins. Man am I beat. This piano tuning thing was supposed to be a part-time job. Goodness! I start back at my full-time job as a choir teacher this week. At least I'll be able to pay the sales tax on my new truck. LOL!!!

Sigh... So ditch the truck and lease or rent when you need one. That way the maintenance/insurance/upkeep is paid for by someone else.

Got some very positive feedback from the pickiest player around. She liked the bass on an old Chickering quarter grand. I had tuned it a number of times for her before and didn't do anything drastically different. Usually I play and tune only pure twelfths going down into the bass until things get shaky. Then I include the octave from the bottom. Lately, I've been including the octave as soon as I hit the first wound string. Sure was nice to get some feedback. I have learned not to ask for it. People are either too nice or don't understand what you are asking about.
