I am currently looking at a DH Baldwin baby grand built in or around 1995 for the price of $4000. Is it just me or does the price seem to be overly reasonable? In Larry Fine's fourth edition, there is no mention of DH Baldwin, other than as a trade name used by Baldwin. Does anyone have opinions about their construction? TIA.

this UK website says they are bought from Samick. So I think its likely they are Indonesian, Korean or Chinese pianos with maybe some American Baldwin parts? That would explain the price. Of course this is just a guess. Hope this helps.

I played one of the DH Baldwins here in town.. seemed like a pretty nice piano to me, nice action, and if you can get one in good shape for 4K? it may be a good deal.

Actually I was browsing the 2004-5 supplement today and it did say something about DH Baldwin but I got distracted and did not read it.

Definitely Korean Samick. 4K is a good price.

"Another new line is the D.H. Baldwin. Those in the piano trade may recall this as a name Baldwin used on a line of pianos made in Korea. The new D.H. Baldwin line, however, is made in Arkansas. The 560 and 570 model verticals are based on the Acrosonic scale, the model 4560 on the Baldwin model 243 studio scale and the model M5 on the Baldwin M1 grand scale. The company says these new moels are esentially like their higher-priced cousins musically, but with scaled-down cabinetry. Also made in Arkansas are pianos with a variety of minor brand names Baldwin owns and uses at dealer request, such as Ivers & Pond, Cable, J & C Fischer, and others. These are essentially the same as the D.H. Baldwin pianos."

My neighbor bought a DH Baldwin in Florida about 5 years ago for $5K. I'm pretty sure it was new. She says it's OK but she's not thrilled with it.

The dealer whose DH Baldwin I played stated that it was built in the US, so it may not be useful in your decision.
