Love it!
Can't do it right now but I look forward to poring over it and complaining about who's in or not and what categories they're in and how far up or down.

I'm curious particularly to see who's inert.

Schoenberg for one.

One of my favorite composers, but... I'm afraid they may have gotten that right.

Without looking, I'd say these are some other "inerts":

Alkan
Scriabin
Ives
Harry Partch

Of course it's a matter of interpretation on what makes a composer "inert." That's mine.
(I'll explain if I have to.)

BTW, I wouldn't have thought Schoenberg.

Great! I teach chemistry in addition to giving piano lessons. I've been searching for some sort of connection between the two activities. Now I've found it! Thanks for posting, it's very clever!

Just like the periodic table you can add composers as they are discovered.

Brahms got buried under Berlioz and Wagner, he wouldn't have liked being in that company (much less below them). ;-)

I noticed that, too. Seems like Brahms and Bruckner should be switched, but otherwise, the table is really VERY clever.

One other thing I noticed: SUPPE???!?!?!? (lol)

You mean it should have been von Suppe, or he shouldn't be here at all?

BTW, anyone who ever saw this thing would probably have no doubt that he belongs, whatever we call him....although of course the one we would have wanted to include was Andy Panda.



There was also a Mickey Mouse version but it wasn't as good.

A friend played his own arrangement of this at one of the amateur competitions. He didn't make the next round. I woulda given him 1st prize.

Brahms ought to be among the noble metals.

Hmmm...it seems that I should pair together my Russian/Soviet composers (halogens) with Baroque period composers (alkali metals) to produce fine salts with a high enthalpy change..

Remember that going "down" the columns corresponds to increasing atomic number/mass... or musical mass in this case?... perhaps JSB should be further down somewhere?

SO... von Suppe?!?! I actually played a piano transcription of his light cavaleria... For some exams (pretty much sight reading), in order for someone to conduct me (instead of an actual band). I did quite well, he did quite poorly. Difficult stuff when the conductor is actually behind your back when playing! (piano was an upright piano facing the wall!!!!).

I can't either....
Maybe that's why I couldn't find Elgar.

He's not there, though Delius is.

This would have been much more clever if the same symbols as the table of elements were used. However, it would also have been difficult, due to the importance of the town of Ytterby, among other things.

Nikolas, if you have a Mac, just do Command + and the whole screen increases in size, and you can keep doing it and it gets bigger and bigger.

Don't know what to do on a PC, tho.
