Well folks, the first Eastern Pennsylvania Piano Party is now history. Bruce D and Bernard represented the Piano Forum, and my neice and her husband, Bob, came down from North Jersey. In spite of the low turnout, we all had a great time, and we finally got to meet Bernard.

Bruce and Bernard entertained us most of the evening with some absolutely excellent piano playing. In fact, they were so good that we set up a ticket booth at the end of my driveway and sold tickets. (Uhh.. guys..I "forgot" to give you your share of the take. Sorry 'bout that).

Bruce and Bernard, I and my family thank you for coming and treating us all to some beautiful music.

Regards to all,
Mike

Mike:
... and I, in turn, want to thank you and Noreen, once again, for being the charming hosts that you are. If everyone else had as enjoyable a time as I, then the evening was indeed an unqualified success.

These piano parties are wonderful ideas; there should be more of them.

Bernard: I enjoyed meeting you and listening to your playing.

Ok, folks: When and where is the next (local) piano party? If only I had more room, I could offer to host it, but, alas, I can't.

Thanks again, Mike and Noreen.

Regards,

Bruce,

Maybe we could talk Rich G. into having it at Cunningham.

How about it, Rich?

Bruce, yes I did and indeed it was. Thank you Mike for hosting the first ever North East get together--it was great! Let me second Bruce's idea of having more of them.

I met my current limitations (which is a disguised blessing, I always say) and gained a clear picture of what work still needs to be done. It takes playing for others to gain this insight. Wished I could have had more finished pieces to play, maybe next time.

Oh... You know... A night of music in the home is a fabulous thing indeed! Everyone was a joy to listen to and Mike's son played some pieces on his Clarinet. Will expect to hear some father/son duets sometime in the future. Bruce, thanks for playing the Rachmaninoff (I'm duly impressed), it's one of my favorite pieces.

I would like to add a note here for other forum members from the NYC area: Maybe next time we can plan a field trip? It was real easy to get to Doylestown from Port Authority on TransBridge lines, and I booked a room ($60) for Saturday evening at a local hotel, it was a cinch. Imagine what fun it would be if a group of us got together for the next "salon".

Yes, I agree the piano parties are great.

I have been to four, two at my house, one at Niles Duncan's house and one at Cork's house in Dallas.
Each one has been a treat.
Nobody is worried about how well you play.
It is a very supportive atmosphere.
I especially like the old fashioned-ness of it.

Each time the apprehensiveness about meeting people from the Internet in a home melted away into a sense of camaraderie and a shared love of music and pianos

I encourage people to organize one in their area.

I barely come into contact with other pianists, the only time I talk to others about music is with my teacher or here. I wish there were more "social" gatherings for people with interests in classical music, and since I am 17 its not very hip to like this sort of thing. While other kids are having a good time partying, I am having a better time practicing! Whoopie!

CrashTest;

Hang in there! Your day will come! And it will bring greater rewards than many of your 'partying' friends will enjoy.
