I was privileged today to be present when my friend Jeff Goldberg's Hamburg C arrived from Klavierhaus in NYC. What a piano! what a sound! What a player! I don't think I have heard such a glorious sound before from a piano. Even though it was somewhat out of tune, the resonance, (the bass is phenomenal) timbre and balanced sound coming from this piano was incredible. It's a 1992-93 model that looks practically brand new. I was told the folks at Klavierhaus were fantastic to deal with in every aspect of the sale and the move. What a sound....no wonder these Hamburg C's are as rare as hen's teeth. smile Jeff is a wonderful professional pianist and accompanist in NYC. I told him I would be posting pics and sound files, and he wanted everyone to know he was not prepared to play today, so there are some wrong notes etc etc etc....ok Jeff, not to worry, everyone here at PW is very kind wink ...plus this was delivery day, so it's understandable. smile Here are some pics and 2 Chopin selections Jeff played, which I recorded with the Zoom H4 built in mics. Enjoy! ps. after hearing this incredible piano, I think I am going to have withdrawal symptoms hearing other pianos now...LOL!

I should add that the moving guys from Klavierhaus were extraordinary! Frank's Piano Movers from NYC I believe.....they had literally 1-2 inches to spare in the freight elevator, but they made it!

What a gorgeous piano and what a beautiful bass, particularly at the beginning of the Scherzo #3.

The change in camera angle is so amazing. In the first picture, the piano looks a gazillion feet long. But the 3rd picture makes it look like a baby grand.

What a privilege for you to be there and hear that impromptu concert on such a magnificent piano! smile

Looks like Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze in the second and third photos. And that particular section is indeed quite frightening...

That's amazing. Great sound and playing.

(So that piano actually fits a NYC apartment?)

I believe you are right Postenebraslux, as I also recorded a selection from that, but my Zoom H4 memory card is faulty, so it will play on my Winamp but not on the Windows Media Player or Audacity, so I can't get it off the SD card to transfer to box.net. I have purchased a new EFilm SD card, which should alleviate this problem.

I am glad everyone is enjoying the sound etc...what a piano...I keep playing back those 2 files and the sound is simply fantastic...and sitting there live, listening to Jeff play so well, the tone was magical, just beautiful, even slightly out of tune, as it was in the treble. The Zoom captured this magic pretty well, but I think some outboard mics would have sounded even better. It's funny, you can hear in certain parts of the 2 files, buses on the street etc.

LJC, I was posting about the same time you were...no, the piano IS in NYC. smile

PianoAgain, just barely, it was touch and go! That old freight elevator in the apt building was not that big and only one door opened, so as a result, the 4 guys had to take it OFF the skid board and use double blankets...stairs were not an option, nor were the main elevators. They literally squeezed, spun, and maneuvered that piano in the elevator with about 1-2 inches to spare.

Update.....While I was not able to convert the Schumann recording on the Hamburg C into an MP3 file, I was able to download the full WAV file...so here is a link to that. It was recorded the same day as the 2 Chopin pieces. Enjoy! It's a 30mg file.
