Yeah, it's amazing how players at an event sponsored by Roland can be so happy with their Roland gear. Who'd have thought it.

And I suppose the next revelations will be, "Roland boss really likes Roland stuff", or, "Yamaha supremo recommends Yamaha". Hold the front pages....

Those real jazz musicians playing that serious jazz music do look happy. Was that a V-trumpet?

I'm sure someone in the trumpet forum would have the answer wink

The OP's video does show just how good the V-Piano Grand sounds. The videos I've seen of the VPG sound very very good. But gosh, what a BORING video and not the 'coolest' jazz players I've heard.

I believe Bill Evans had a page turner (; when he was promoting RMI pianos and I think he was even smiling and not bent over.

AABA is about as easy a format to solo on as any. Once you know A you know 75% of the tune! On top of that it was a classic standard bluesy tune Basin Street Blues.

Ok, rant off. smile

I agree with Dave, it had a somewhat standard C3ish sound. I like the fact that the VPG sounds kinda detuned. Interestingly the VPG always sounds much better in its Vids than the VP does. Maybe something to the multichannel sound or the cabinet it's in.

it cracks me up that the secret to authenticity for DP's is to have them out of tune.

yeah- let's make them really, really heavy - put them in wooden piano casings, and let's make them slightly out of tune. See how far we've come from the acoustic piano!!!

I have to say I'm a little taken aback at the level of cynicism here (and I'm renowned among friends for being a hardened cynic!).

First of all the players. To me it looked like they were having genuine fun - and why not? I assume these were music students. They're probably too young and naive to play the corporate game. The girl nearest camera who was reading looked to me like a classical pianist. Reading? OMG! The world will cave in. These days, if I don't stick a chord chart in front of me I'm frightened I'll forget where I am ("you're in the bar, voxpops, and this is the band you play with. Remember now?")

Then the piano. You want an in-tune piano sound? Just twiddle this knob here. I think the VPG sounds remarkably organic, despite the detuning. All right, the design makes it seem kind of kitsch, and the weight is a bit silly, but the sound system is excellent. Chop it down to the size of an upright and I wouldn't say no - oh, hold on, you want how much?

Yes, this is a promo video, but that doesn't necessarily make it ALL bad.

When someone begins from an angle "Roland should have hired me instead" (I am a better player) or "V-Piano is way overpriced and not worth the money", cynicism is the only outcome.

If the above comments were targeted at any of my comments, I was poking a little fun at the rather boring display of the VPG. But again, my comments were in jest on the musician side.

The lady in the video is a wonderful classical pianist named Yana Reznik. She's always the one showcasing the VPG. Don't really know the other players.

And as for the sound, I have praised the sound of the VPG several times. I think the video of the VPG where Miyuji Kaneko is playing Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C# minor is exceptional, and a very very good display of the quality of the VPG.

Thanks for that info, Zac. I'd never heard of her before. Just looked her up. Wow!

Must admit, as good as the VPG is, I prefer listening to her on an acoustic.
