For my Shout House gig, I went ahead and made myself a dowel and screw loop maker. Works great, and now my loops are identical to those one the original strings.

Just passing on something I learned and refined years ago. It is nice that it is so handy and portable.
Some day I will figure out a similar method for English loops. It will probably be more complicated, though.

A hook, 0,5 mm less thick than the plate pins, is what is used in most places and it is fast, once you are used to do that.
WIth a hook you also can bend the end of the becket so its extremity push on the cloth punching as a spring and keep the eyelet well tight (look at a Boesendorfer) .
Once the wire have been turned around the wire, you bend the becket around the hook and cut it then it have always the same lenght.
No goodie can do that shape as you need the wire to be tense. gloves are necessary, the extremity of the string can be turned with pliers to grab it with force if by hand you find it too hard.
