It is indeed a beautiful piano Sam and I can hear your enthusiasm.

You might want to check the position of the lid stick, the long support should go in the cup that's inboard farther. The support should be roughly 90 degree related to the lid.

If by chance you're listening through Yamaha stock headphones or the equivalent, your assessment may turn out to be too pessimistic. A good set of phones might change things quite a bit. The headphones that came with my Silent Piano don't sound nearly as good as the sound through fancy Bose headphones. Good luck.

I use Shure SE535s with custom molded earpieces. They far outstrip any Bose offerings, so I'm sure that's not the issue smile

It's just that when you have a beautiful acoustic, no digital can quite match up.

True, and it sounds like you've completely ruled out headphones as the problem.

The technology keeps improving and if the after-market system was installed a few years ago it's possible that it has shortcomings that have partially been dealt with in the last few years. That said, of course the digital sound, even through phones, will never equal the real thing.

Still, I bet you'll find the headphones useful--night and morning playing, repetitive working out little problems, scales, exercises, etc. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm using mine more than the real piano! If you're in a house (and not a condo or apartment) hopefully you won't be in my boat and therefore WILL be able to mostly play the real thing.

Sam its sounds just great! the minute I saw it was a Yamaha, I'd figured it be on the bright side, but it surprised me, whatever work they did on it, it sounds perfect in
that room.. you even have hardwood floors, and the tone sounds wonderful! smile

Thank you to all the well wishers! I LOVE the piano. Sadly, I've gone back to New York so I can't play it again until summertime, but it will be there waiting for me, and I'll keep practicing (even if it's on a stinky digital) so I'll be worthy of it when I get back.

Playing since age 21 (September 2010) and loving it more every day.

Sam: first congratulations!

I'm confused. At least now (2012) Yamaha does not sell a Silent Piano in G2 configuration. (The closest thing they sell in the U.S. is a C2 as a Silent Piano.) What's up with that--do you know? Was this piano meant for the American market? How old is it? These curiosities of mine aside, CONGRATULATIONS! (I too just love my 5'8" Yamaha silent grand (C2SG), much like yours. If you bought this used, as I'm guessing you must have, I'm jealous. I could not find a used one as hard as I tried. As a result, I had to pay a small fortune for a new one. Good luck with it!

I wrote in the first post of the thread that the recording was of the untuned piano. It didn't make sense for me to tune it as it had just been moved and I had only a couple days before I had to go back to New York (where I am now). I'll be having it tuned when I get back home some time in the summer (and maybe voiced / regulated if the tech thinks it could benefit from that).

I saw your thread, and that's a steal! I think you have a piano buying problem! wink
I have a similar U1 which I paid a lot more for. It's the first piano I bought, before I knew anything about piano buying. I actually bought it sight unseen (how stupid can you get, right?). I got enough joy out of it that I don't regret buying it though smile
I had the movers move it to my garage when I bought this one.

In the end, it's all about the music. Don't be jealous wink
