Well?

Good or bad? I think it's actually stunning. Of course not like an orchestra, but still stunning, non the less!

I thought guy playing was really good. The instrument itself was a weird mix of very realistic sounds and some very fake sounds. The Wikipedia article on it is interesting.

Speaking of synths, has anybody been fooling around Google's Moog doodle today? It's pretty amazing, the most complex one they've done so far.

First of all, I'm skeptical about the lack of responses as of yet! Ok, so it's not piano related, but it IS classical music and it IS stunning to think that someone's transcripted ALL the orchestral parts and playing them live! Come on... It makes my piano chops (whatever's left of them) to look blunt and silly!

wr: Any sample developer will tell you that some instruments are extremely difficult to nail, while other ones are quite easy (piano being easy for 98% of emulation... The 2% has been the dream of anyone dealing with samples and yet to be succeeded!). But I think that the electone is not using samples, or if it is, there's a serious lack of RAM and hard disk streaming power!

For us computer based producers, it's always a given that any workstation is worst in power than our own computer(s) + midi. But this is the first time that I've seen something like that and it's exciting as heck!

(Missed the whole of Moog doodle yesterday! I was out for the most part of the day and never visited googl...)

Agree, that's a rather amazing performance!

The electone has certainly come a long way since I last heard it.

Not surprised by the lack of responses though. Forums are strange in that way. How would people have reacted on forums had the Rites of Spring been introduced that way?

Considering the economy though, I think I'll stick with the samples I have now.

It's still online in their doodle archive.

Somebody even did a pretty thorough explanation of how to run it (which doubles as a nice little intro to synths).
