Alright- have fantasie up to over half-speed and looking for a complementary slow piece.... It will be grandos orientale unless anyone else has a suggestion.... :-).

As an aside, thank you to whoever suggested chopins fantasie impromptu. It's a great challenge, and very satisfying!!!:-).

Finally, at what point should one look at finding a piano teacher? I'm playing about 6 hours a week.....

Thanks!

One of the best pieces for the intermediate level is the Walter Ponce intermezzo. I absolutely love it, and it has a few things in it that make it a great teaching piece as well. I don't understand why it is virtually unknown in this country. Here is a recording:

A long time ago!

And ASAP!

I think you will see why, once you have one.

For a change of pace, stylistically, why not the Mendelssohn Hunting Song from Songs Without Words. It is great fun to learn and play. It is a great go to piece if someone asks you to 'play something for me.'

As a teacher, it is also fun to teach!

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

Having played this, I love it to death, but I think it's far too difficult (and long) for what's being asked here. The D. 899 Impromptus are a better choice. I also second the recommendations for the Bach French Suites.

The third impromptu will be too difficult for him to tackle. It's probably the toughest of the 8 after Op.142 No.4. But Op.142 No.3 is my personal favourite;such a gorgeous theme and the minor variations gives me shivers every time I hear it, especially when played by Uchida. As for the OP's question, Chopin's Nocturne Op.55 No.1 might fit the bill. It's tougher than the nocturne he's working on and it's good for showing off your technique too( I played it to my dad's friends and they thought that it was tougher than Chopin's Op.25 No.1.)

Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.7, Op.10 No.3
Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor
Scriabin: Prelude, Op.11 No.11

Schubert's Impromptus or Moments Musicaux.
