Richard, I shall look out for that piece. Thanks for the heads up.
(I hadn't thought about the toccatas as I thought they be too challenging for me.)

Geez, I have been out for a while, what is going on in the Pianist Corner? Have they been hacked or something?

Anyway, here is an interesting video.

Elssa, Richard, thanks very much for the Donna Summer posts. It's good to know that others here also appreciated her.

Richard, you may have noticed on 'another thread' that Casinitaly posted yesterday a mammoth congratulations on my birthday, in red caps 48 point bold or summat. Or not (noticed) :-)
In any case, I think we were all affected yesterday by the Pianist Corner Superbug.

Right, the kitchen is once again fit to live in, I've re-booted the 'puter (happens around once a fortnight) and this afternoon I will be looking for and printing out some Frescobaldi that will hopefully serve me for the rest of the term, whilst also listening to some new-to-me Philip Glass.

The two beautiful volumes of Bach (Barenreiter Anna Magdalena notebook, and the Henle Bach Little Preludes) are even better in daylight. The woven covers are in the lightest hue of blue-green. The paper is what you would wish. I'm having to wash my paprika-coated-mitts carefully before touching them.

Otherwise, today I am mainly re-hashing left-over everything (a lot!) and maybe delivering more doggie bags to my lovely and very elderly neighbour, who spent yesterday afternoon round here.

Good morning everyone. A belated Happy Birthday to Eglantine. You were awfully quiet about it. Thanks to Richard for letting us know. I also enjoyed the Sonata Quinta.

My first post for today is the Fugue in G Minor, BWV 542, by Johann Sebastian Bach. It is performed on organ by Anthony Newman.

Wish you a very very happy and healthy birthday, Eglantine (sorry for belated wish!). I noticed the cake yesterday and thought I'd share it later. But you've left nothing today grin
This is for you:

And, as I wanted from Richard also, please consider sharing some of your piano and harp recording with us on this lovely occasion.

Eglantine, we posted at the same time! I'm glad you had a wonderful celebration yesterday. Since you are regular visitor to the Handel House, you might particularly enjoy my next posting "Concerto for Harp, Strings, and 2 Flutes."

1. Andante Allegro

2. Larghetto

3. Allegro Moderato

Good morning Rupak, I enjoyed the Purcell. Since we seem to be enjoying the Baroque music here is a beautiful guitar rendition of Fuga BWV 1000 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The performance is by Hungarian guitarist Tamás Szekeres.

Before I do my final post today, I want to thank Mark who introduced me to the works of concert pianist Awadagin Pratt. I was absolutely mesmerized by Pratt's performance of J.S. Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582. Pratt's performance was at the White House Evening of Classical Music on November 4, 2009.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Hey Richard, I've reviewed Book I of the Frescobaldi toccatas: there are six likely candidates for your D minor (prima, segonda, terza, quarta, settima, decima). All with one flat in key sig and various C-sharp accidentals. Book II has another six (prima, seconda, sesta, settima, ottava, nona) with right key sig, didn't get as far as the accidentals... )

Yes, that paprika gets everywhere, doesn't it?! (ha). Happy Belated Birthday!

PPP- that is one odd/different/interesting video!

Wow, Griffin, that's FABULOUS, in so many ways.... Thank you so much for that!

It's strange, but piano and harpsichord are so different. I think I would also like to hear this on a harpsichord.

And I'm so loving the fact that my friend has led me back to Bach with these two volumes, yesterday, as I dance around Croft and Froberger and Purcell and Blow and Frescobaldi. It does all come back to Bach. Even with a Passacaglia - we've been studying heavily the basso ostinato forms this term, which are so often based on a passacaglia.

Can anyone tell me what that piano is?
(I won't ask you where Awadagin got his shirt, but I have some friends who might be interested!)

Recaredo, the large-cap red theme is proving very popular!

It's the eighth, ottava, in the second volume of 11, Eglantine.

You'll recognise it instantly from the distinct lack semiquavers littering the score (sight reading material for the likes of myself) and making it a handy vehicle for expressing yourself quite freely with your newly acquired ornamental flourishes! smile

I did see Cheryl's subtle hint, btw, but I also caught the cake yesterday though I was unable to make progress through the bug!

PS. I know there was a spurious fugue, I didn't know of a fake toccata. (I hope this isn't the one!)

Whoa, Recaredo - pass me my shades!!

The piano is a Steinway made uniquely for the White House - you can see the eagle legs.

Thanks, Richard.

The fake toccata is this one:
