Do you think he really did mock the jury at the ICC 1980? Sometimes I think so, other times I don't. His performance of the 3rd scherzo at the ICC is very different and much more unorthodox than his studio recording for Deutsche Grammophon. What do you think? Even if he was mocking the jury, it doesn't change my opinion about him or his playing. I think he is one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. Also, if he really was mocking the ICC jury - kudos to him! I respect a man who laughs in the face of "correctness" and slimy politics. Not to mention his playing is of the most exciting out there! grin

Anyway.. that's all I have to say. I hope you guys have plenty of interesting thoughts to share. I always love seeing what my lame threads evolve into!

I must agree with you.i have a lot of respect for IP... I heard him about a year ago here in Leicester UK, with the Philharmonia playing Chopin Piano concerto no.2. It didn't conform at all........but the playing was sublime.
