I have my first student recital coming up in a couple of weeks and I am looking for a simple, nice looking template to create my physical program. I have been trying for awhile to find one by searches but I can't quite find something that works for me.

I don't have Microsoft word but I just downloaded Microsoft's "word starter" which seems to be similar to word although I don't know its limitations (imagining they would exist for a free program). Please help...I have had nightmares trying to learn excel in college and these nightmares have just come back big time! I am not good with formating, so I need something that is super simple. Thanks.

first of all, try open office, instead of word starter: http://www.openoffice.org/ It's an open source, and freeware software that works great (I did my PhD thesis on open office! And my proof reader was also using it).

Now, I don't have a template to offer, but here's a couple of ideas/comments:

1. You need to think on the format you will use. There are 3 very easy ways to have a recital program:

* A letter sized paper printed in both pages. First page reads the recital information (time, date, students playing perhaps, your name, venue...), along with some nice graphics, and the other side reads the actual program.

* A letter sized paper folded in the short side middleways. This way you will get 2 'half-sized letter' sheets, and 4 pages to work with. If you're working with A4 size pages, then you would be getting two A5 sized ones.

Here you have to make sure you type in the right things in the right pages. If you label pages 1 and 2, and 1 is the one with the cover and back cover, you need to remember that the cover goes to the right side and the back cover to the left. The inside can have either the program spread in 2 pages, with the interval separating them, or the program on the left/right side and a few words from you to the right/left side.

* A letter sized paper folder on the long side middleways. It's essentially the same as above but results in some nice long looking recital which is used quite a lot.

I'm sorry that I can't be of further assistance...

Just type it out in notepad...most PC's will have this on. It doesn't have to be anything special just informaative.

Then if you did want to jazz it up - go to google images and find some images suited to your recitel.
