It's freaking awesome! I've done it before once with my Nord Piano, and I used to hook up my Nord Electro 3 before I sold it. The action as substantial as a real grand controlling the Nord's pianos is super cool, and much more fun than playing the Nord's action. Here is a picture of my set up: ![[Linked Image]](http://www.pianoworld.com/Uploads/files/photo.JPG) I'm not sure how many Nord Piano owners there are on here, or especially how many have the Nord Piano plus a digital piano with a more substantial action, but it's quite the fun experience playing Nord's wonderful sounds from a serious action. It almost seemed like the samples themselves were more even sounding and behaved even more acoustic like. The N1 controlling the NP88 connects better than even the N1 with its own built in sample set. I'm just having a blast with it.

Interesting, but the colour clash is hurting my eyes. Time to paint the N1? Seriously though, that's a great combo - the ultimate 'best of both worlds' setup. Cheers, James x

MP10 controlling NP88 is fantastic too. No messing around with velocity curves etc - just works right from the off. I agree with Zachary - this kind of thing gives a whole new dimension to the NP88 and is a damn good reason why Clavia needs to put a better action inside the Nord (although the Nord's is ok, not as bad as some people think). It's just the visuals - how can it be made to LOOK right?

Yes, I can imagine that's a great solution! I've described a pedestrian version of the same (Yamaha GH action to play the Nord Electro 3HP) here...A substantial action *does* take the Nord sounds to a new dimension.

so buying a NP2 as a traveling performance board because of its weight and high quality samples, and controlling it at home with my v-piano..... would be a pretty interesting setup?

Bruce,
Yes it would bring the Nord's samples to life in a way that the Nords action can't. Not because the Nords action is innately inferior, but because the Nords action can't mechanically be as extensive as PHAIII, RM3, and certainly not as much as the AvantGrand. So when I hook up my Nord to my AvantGrand, it's a pretty convincing experience. I only wish there was a way to connect the Nord and make the sounds come through the AvantGrand speakers.

The N1 doesn't have audio inputs? No doubt blighted by the dreaded noise gate Lawrence....

how much of this is due to the nords having velocity curve presets that are too aggressive? wasnt there a thread where someone way above my technical pay grade actually reworked the algorithm for the nord's velocity sensitivity?

Hi ZacharyForbes congrats.
It's good to hear that the Nord sound connects well to the N1 and Kawai MP10 actions too.
Though I love the appearance of the NP88 very much, the finishing pales in comparison with that of the N1...

Hi, I know this is an old thread, but I'm curious: would hooking up the Nord 88 to another DP create a better sounding piano than using a software piano...? Has anyone done a head-to-head comparison of this?

Has anyone done a head-to-head comparison of this? That all depends on what software piano you have. I've read the Nord uses sample derived from Sampletekk. But they must only be "derived from" because the Nord could not possibly have enough memory inside to hold a hugh multi-gigabyte sample set. So I think yu can do much better with a software piano and for less money too. Check out this one. It is, I think the software piano I like best now. These are samples on this page. Both MP3 and WAV files. Black Piano I've not hear any self contained DP this good. It is new. And as it turns out whatever is new is "best" until the next new thing comes out. Price is reasonable too.

Wow, that does sound nice... thanks for pointing me to that software piano! Out of curiosity, what do you you use as your controller? I am considering getting either a Roland 300NX or Kawai MP10, since I liked the actions on those two stage pianos best...
