I have had similar issues with my Kawai CN33 which is 20 months old. 12 months ago Kawai sent an engineer to my house to fix the first clicking key - the G4 - which got progressively more lateral movement and louder clicks. He completely disassembled the keyboard movement, removed keys and refitted them, and retightened. Click disappeared, but he offered cause for the key becoming sloppy and clicking.

Now in last two weeks my C3 key is exhibiting the same traits - lateral movement and annoying clicks. I only hope Kawai will fix this under warranty.

However I am concerned this may be a ongoing fault with the CN33 and will re-occur again and again.

Do any of you CN33 owners have similar concerns?

I asked if one of the engineers could come and repair it here at home. That wasn't an option, according to him. The question now is: Why not?

Kawai James, do you think there is a reason for this?

Kind regards,

Excuse me, but the Kawai Support wants to help you, and you refuse cause you don´t want to give the piano away for one week?
Be happy that you must not send it away and that it does last ONLY one week.

I've had my CN33 for nearly two years. Gets played an hour and more every day. A couple of keys show signs of loosening compared to others, E4 the main culprit, as there is some quite minor lateral movement. No clicking though.

Not sure what to expect down the line. Don't all mechanical movements show some wear and tear after a while. The question is what's reasonable and in what time frame. A clicking key would need repair though.

Can a techician fix these issues or do they have to replace the whole keybed?

maybe I'm the unluckiest of all.
On my MP6, the keys with more lateral movement and clicking noise are:

G3 - B3 - G4 - B4 - F5 - B5 - E6 - G6 - A6

use about two hours a day

Quite a few. All clicking? How long have you had it? What sort of music do you play?

Well, a clicking key can usually be resolved with a simple re-application of lubricant. However, if not, it may be necessary to reseat/replace the key.

James

IMOL, may I ask if you have spoken to the dealer/distributor?

Kind regards,
James

yes James,
they think it will be resolved with re-application of grease.

spanishbuddha :
my MP6 is now 12 months , but after 1 o 2 months it became already noisy.

I study classical music and I play blues and swing music.

James,
I'm sorry but I don't trust, I have previous experience very negative about it.
The lubrication lasts up to one month (max), then come back as before.
I decided to recall the distributor,
if they replace the keys I accept, otherwise I leave everything as it is now.

I bought by cn33 in February 2012 and am having these terrible problems with "clicking" sounds that I think are caused by too much lateral movement in the keys. It started with one key and soon became a problem with about half of the keyboard. A technician came to the house and disassembled the keyboard. He said there was too much grease on the keys. He put it back together and it was better but only for about two hours. Now most of the keys have this problem and it is louder than before he came. I am going to ask for a replacement as my piano is only 2 months old.

Hello Karen,

I'm sorry to read of your unsatisfactory experience with the CN33.
I believe you're quite right to request a replacement instrument.

Kind regards,
James

Hi Karen,
As I wrote in this thread, my CN 33 clicking key problem has raised its head again, 12 months after one key was fixed. It seems to me there is too much lateral movement on most of the keys, and when a key becomes a little too loose it starts clicking.
Yes, it can be repaired as long as its under warranty, but the repair process is a hassle and takes too long (still waiting for a engineer to contact me as I write) as I live away from major cities.

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what the problem is. Perhaps a defective part?

Re my clicking key in post in this thread "Now in last two weeks my C3 key is exhibiting the same traits - lateral movement and annoying clicks. I only hope Kawai will fix this under warranty."

Kawai arranged for an engineer to visit my house ( 2 hours from Melbourne) and do a complete overhaul on my keyboard action. He removed the keyboard and then individually removed, lubricated and replaced all 88 keys - about 3 hours in total. There was no signs of any visible wear with the clicking key, but it and many of the other keys had little or no lubrication on them (He used a white, fine grease - almost the consistency of a thick hand cream). It seemed that many had missed lubrication in the assembly phase.

Here is pic of repair

The click is no gone. Hopefully this fix will last.

About two months after purchase I had a few clicking keys on my KDP80. Kawai sent out an engineer who did the same job as above. Resulting in no clicking. I've had my piano just a few weeks over a year now and the problem has not recurred.

Sorry, I only just caught up with this thread, I've owned my CN33 for several months now, I play it everyday and I'm still in love with it, no clicking noises that I can hear. I guess there could be the odd piano which develops a fault but that's mechanics, good after sales service fixes most things.....I hope.

The engineer did the same for me, it took about 3 hours as well. The problem was fixed but returned only after about 3 hours of playing. When the problem came back, it was affecting almost all the keys on the keyboard. I called the sales people and they replaced my piano yesterday with an upgrade to the CN43. I like it very much and hope the problem doesn't come back! Thanks for all the replies everyone!
