every now and then I just can't resist posting funny happenings here, and I always enjoy hearing yours!!!

Today in my studio:

7 year old boy working up a method book piece in 3/4 time. He turned to the piece in his book today and said, "I changed the meter to 4/4, easier to play!".
He had whited-out 3/4 and put 4/4.....first time I had seen that happen... laugh

Haha that's awesome smile

The best one I can think of at the moment is when a young boy about 7 or so finished his book and he exclaimed "I beat the book!" lol

It is better to be kind than to be right.

Don't you love how kids come up with the darnedest things? wink

I had a great experience a few weeks ago... one night, a mom of two brought her son to his lesson on Wednesday evening, and handed me a piece of paper with 'Lois Go!' written on it, and an incredibly flattering portrait of me with some musical notes. I asked her who this was from, and she told me it was from her 5-year-old daughter, Anne, who I have been teaching in group since she was three. Mom then explained that after Church on the Sunday, Anne wanted to know how many houses were on their block, so they went for a walk and counted. When they returned home, Anne told her dad that she needed 23 pieces of paper, and promptly informed her parents that she wanted to make and deliver flyers. She then delivered these wonderful flyers to every house on her block, and when she returned home, Mom asked her what the flyers were for. Anne told Mom that 'More people need to take piano with Mrs Lois, and I'm going to help!'. I laughed SO hard when I heard the story!

Gotta love those wonderful moments! laugh

I had a seven-year-old girl in Piano Adventures 1. There are 2 companion pieces called "Girl on a Bicycle" and "Boy on a Bicycle." She played the "girl" one then hesitated before she played the "boy" one. I asked her what was wrong, and she hemmed and hawed before saying "Well, I don't like boys very much." I suggested we play it and have him fall off his bike at the end. She played a glissando with a big chord and really enjoyed it. When Mom came to get her, her little brother was with her. As soon as he walked in she said, "Hear this? This is what you need!" Then came the lengthy explanation to Mom.

I like these threads, too!

A tactic I use with young students sometimes after I've just explained a concept is to tell them "Pretend YOU are a piano teacher and tell me what this means, or how you would explain that, etc." My 6 year old promptly responded "If I was a piano teacher I would take a very nice long vacation by the beach"..

I like these too. Kids say the funniest things.

I had a 5 year old tell me thismorning that he's "5 and 10 quarters". (I think he meant 10 12ths?)

And a 10 year old told me last week that she wants a grand piano but she needs $25,000 to buy one. I said "you and me both" and she said "okay lets race to see who can buy one first. I'm pretty sure I'll win though. I already have $220 saved up that I got for my birthday."
