I have a friend that needs to sell their Kimball piano, they are moving from MA to CA.

Can someone give me an idea what this piano would be worth, hardly used, excellent condition?

Thank you

Mike

If it's a grand piano, maybe a few thousand dollars. If it's an upright, it's worth virtually nothing.

Nearly every private seller says their piano is "hardly used" and in "excellent condition". The reality of this statement is often "rarely maintained" and "exposed to a harsh environment"...

Mike, hopefully someone with a Pierce Piano Atlas can chime in to say what the age of the instrument is. Also, if you could indicate upright (and height) or grand (and length), it would be helpful.

The older the piano is, the tougher the question is to answer without an in-person technician inspection. Sorry to give such a nebulous answer...

.... This makes just about as much sense. What model Chevy? What year?

It is from 1985. More information is necessary, however.

For starters…

Upright or grand?

Spinet, console, studio, or full-size upright? (How tall from floor to top of paino)

What finish?

No matter what it is, it is worth what someone will pay them for it. Look for comparables on Craigslist, and remember that asking price is not necessarily getting price.

You cannot attach pictures. You need to link to them on a server — that is, they need to be on the internet already.

If you can't read or tell the difference between vertical and horizontal, how can you figure out how to use a picture hosting site?

Guapo, I think your comments are a little harsh... msheehan1 is a new member here and joined the forum to ask questions about their piano. S/he may not know the difference between a vertical and a grand, or how to post pictures.

Perhaps you could explain the difference between a vertical and a horizontal, and how to post pictures?

Rick

Rick,

I can read the questions posed to the unresponsive OP and I do not think my question is harsh. I also like racoons and chew backy.

Guapo,

I tend to think your comments are bit out of the ordinary. People seeking help (knowledge)are generally treated much better, how else will one learn.

To the rest thanks for you help.

Mike

Hi Michael,

The piano in the picture is a baby grand... maybe 5 feet or less. Grands are usually sized by length from front to back; from the front of the keyboard near the center of the piano, to the farthest part of the back/tail end.

Value depends on the local used piano market, and the condition. I agree with another poster that it could be worth a couple of thousand dollars or so, depending on condition and the local market.

It's hard to put a price or worth on a used piano... you could do a search of similar Kimball baby grands for sale and see what the average asking prices are.

Good luck!

Rick

Those were pretty poor quality instruments. It is hard to say what they would be worth in a local market. Maybe $1000-1500.
