It's Bb, in the second inversion. Inversions mean to take the same note, but play them in a different order. Bb-D-F is the Bb chord in root position - the root of the chord is on the bottome. D-F-Bb is Bb in the first inversion - the bottom note of the original triad has been moved to the top. F-Bb-D is the second inversion - the bottom note of the first inversion has now been moved to the top.

Not B major, Bb major.

If you don't already know, learn the major scales and their relationship with the circle of fifths. That's the basis for the chords.

  • Debussy - Le Petit Nègre, L. 114
  • Haydn - Sonata in Gm, Hob. XVI/44

As said is second inversion of Bb major or Bb/F using an alternative notation (that means Bb chord with F as the lowest note).

It is Bb Major chord inverted - 2nd Inversion.

Try writing out the chords you are using at the moment and inverting them so you get use to playing them in different way.

Broken Chords which feature in some scale books are also another way of familiarizing yourself with these.

HAVE FUN.

Maybe Dazzie is form EU. Things are little different here: our B chord is American Bb chord. Major scale here: C,D,E,F,G,A,H,C2….which means our B is A# or Hb.

I have no idea why this difference (if somebody knows I will be happy to hear)…it can cause confusion for beginners who learn from EU and American literature.

Depends a bit on which part of the EU... Not all of the EU uses the H (which I always thought was only used in Germany)

Nope i am in the uk guys so there is know problem its just i am still learning and chord Inversion it is something new to me, but after doing alot of reading i get the picture about them , I can hit all major and minor root chords with out thinking but much slower with 2nd and 1st inversion . I know this might be for another thread but i started to learn piano to play rock and some rock & roll. I find myself playing more classic or kids songs but only to learn anyone know what is best to get in to playing rock on piano ?

Rock music is more based on chords, so you're on the right track. Piano solos are often simple scales, like blues scales or pentatonic (both very similar scales). Classical style learning will help you with written intros (like the beginning of "Piano Man"), but most pop/rock/modern music is chord based. When I'm asked to play in a band, I get chord charts, not sheet music.

By the way, I think both skills, sight reading and chord knowledge, are important. But if your primary interest is in rock music, I'd stick with chord and scale knowledge for now.

I think it is only in Germany, though I could be wrong.
I've heard it started with a badly written b, which was interpreted as an h....who knows? Sounds reasonable smile

Some random googling suggests that Norway, Sweden and Slovenia also use H. As well as Finland in classical music (but not in contemporary music). This is an example list, not exhaustive.

Dazzie2, it took me a couple of months of focussed practice to get comfortable with playing inverted chords. It was hard work at the time, but has really paid off as my hands are now comfortable going to that shape.

H is definitely dominated also in our country (Slovenia). Also in Poland, Denmark, Norway, Russia, Estonia, Ukraine, Serbia….there are probably many other countries…

C-D-E-F-G-A-H-C (i nordeuropa kaldes tonen B for H) : I do NOT speak Danish, but it looks clear that this sentence indicates that H is characteristic for north countries in Europe. But, our country is definitely not one of the north countries… Serbia, Ukraine also not…

This was a quick search:)
