I live in Canada and would like to buy a new Yamaha U1, but I'm not sure what is a good price to bargain for.

Would anyone care to share what would be a fair price (in Canadian dollar pls) for a new Yamaha U1 ?

Thx a million!

It seems to me that a good way to find out what the "best price" is on a Yamaha U1 is to do some shopping at local Yamaha dealers and see what kind of bargaining is possible.

Prices may not be the same across the country, and, eventually, you're going to have to deal with whatever dealer you choose to buy from and negotiate with his/her prices.

I was just wondering if anyone has recently purchased a Yamaha U1 and how much they paid for it.

I appreciate any experience you can share.

I think Kenny B's 9,995 USD quote is way too high. Try to shoot closer to the 7,000 USD mark if you can (pre-tax, not including delivery, but include a couple of post-delivery in-home tunings, and wood, non-adjustable piano bench).

I would try www.pianoinfo.ca to look for a list of stores (I accessed the website for a friend in Alberta who was looking for a piano at the time). Another popular place is Pianohouse; they are located in Burlington, Ontario (they are on Harvester Rd; website is www.pianos.ca). Call these stores and attempt to get quotes from the stores. Inquire about cost for delivery and add that along with any applicable taxes.

You can also try to contact someone from the PTG (Piano Technician's Guild) in your province for guidance as well.

If you are at the West you will not get a good deal as you will at the East. In Canada the U1 price in general are much more expensive than US.

Are you saying that the minimum selling price is near $9995?

I too am looking for a new U1, but the competition does NOT exist in Dallas/fort worth area. The store is trying to convince me to buy a T118 instead, any ideas on what a decent price is on either, and whether the T118 is even a good compromise?

In Vancouver, BC, a new Yamaha U1 asking price is around $12,000 Canadian dollars but realistically one probably can get a piano for around $10,000 plus tax. The piano prices in Vancouver area are high, when compared to similar products sold down south in the States (e.g., Washington State). However, I do not know how they compare to elsewhere in Canada. A good way to compare is to check the craigslist in different towns (e.g., Vancouver versus Toronto) and see the asking prices of similar pianos in different areas.

I am shopping for a Yamaha U1 too.
There is only one dealer in my town, bellevue, WA.

According to him, list price is $9995 pre-tax pre-deliver, and current price is $7496 due to a 25% off sale.
Any suggestion about bargin?

Also, is it possible to buy it in some other state and do a long-distance delivery? What will happen in case the piano gets hurt on the way?

Thanks,

Thanks,
I would imagine the cost of a long-distance delivery would largely mitigate any possible cost savings, not to mention the cost of your going out to a faraway dealer to evaluate the piano. This is assuming you're going to try the piano you ultimately buy first [always a good idea].

I don't think a professional long distance move adds any real risk to the instrument vs. a short distance move. Probably the greatest likelihood of injury to your piano is moving it from the truck into your home...

As for "which"s post... what are you complaining about? You have no idea how good you have it for piano dealers up in DFW! I found so many brands and many motivated dealers.

I just purchased a brandnew Yamaha U1 a week ago for even $8000CAD in GTA including delivery, tuning and service bond. I think you can bargain a little more like $7500.

Hope it helps.

Congrats on your new piano and welcome to the Forum Huyla. laugh

Buy some good stock and hold it till it goes up, then sell it. If it don't go up, don't buy it.

terminal,

I am complaining about the fact that with "no competition" for yamahas, i am at his mercy!

I do not know enough about pianos to be able to evaluate how good the other committed dealers were, and after visiting most, was just glad the GrandStaff staff were really really nice.

I wound up with a great price, thanks to chipm's post, and some great advice from this forum.

But, i still believe in at least 2 choices for any purchase. It offers a comfort level for neophytes like me.
