I've toyed with the idea of buying an organ though one slightly smaller than the one in that link. They are not as expensive as one would think.

Over here the brand name Johannus is the favorite but that's because it's made in this country.

That's one serious organ! I think you'd need a large space (and no neighbors) for that. Maybe the best thing is to live close to a cathedral and become friends with the organist/choirmaster - or just become the cathedral organist.

Apple, have you heard of the man in Alaska who built a pipe organ in his house? That's what you need!

Rodgers and Roland have teamed up and the Roland "Classic" Organs save you a lot for a reasonable compromise. I had fun watching others in their booth at NAMM this year. And yeah, the big Rodgers is totally amazing.

i did buy an old Allen church organ, electric.. set up, delivered, and warrantied for a year for 600 bucks..

2 manuals, full pedal board, 2 small speakers - analog, not digital.... a small/med 1970s organ.. it sure makes practicing easy. It is quite old tho and definitely not a showcase piece.

Anyway, they have these new digital organs with a master control board and extraordinary speakers.. I listened to an online presentation.. and was absolutely blown away..

Maybe Craig Smith knows what I am talking about.

It is easy apparently to create recreate the 'samples' because a couple companies have been working on it so long. When i find a proper link I will share it.. for 80,000, one can have huge cathedral sound at the fraction of the expense of a huge pipe organ.

something like that.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8051761741243950629#

i realize there is an organ forum but no one ever goes down there ( in the basement area of the forums).

anyway, a digital organ is a keyboard kind of.. hope I am not stepping on any toes.

I have an Alhborn which sounds great (2 manuals/full pedal, 20 something stops). While it'll never be the same a the "real" deal it fits practicing nicely.

If I had alot of money I'd trade it up for another manual and some orchestral sounds, because I think strings blend nicely with organ sounds, but that's quite the expense.

Big organs are cool though. One of my favorite stops in music stores ;-)

we have an organ factory in nearby Lawrence Kansas, - pipe organs!

I get to play on 4 church organs.. One big Allen, One older, not too big pipe organ.. it's the funnest, One small Allen, and One BIG kick *** Rodgers.. maybe it's the funnest. I haven't had a chance to really explore it fully.

my little Allen is kind of broke. the presets down't work for one thing which is ok. I have one volume pedal and a crescendo.

just for practicing, but it fits in my home office.

Thanks Sandy, I guess I read about another guy.. probably in another state even. very enjoyable video btw. I'd love to have theater organ too.. I'd love to live in that home too, but i don't know if there is room for my piano, and who knows if they'd have me. ... LOL.

Bish is a wonderful organist btw... nothing like cameron carpenter tho.

Yeah, I think he came to Portland some months ago. I wish I could have heard him.
I keep seeing organs on craigslist for practically pennies and I keep trying to figure out how I could possibly fit one into my tiny house. I'm really enamored with the big theater organs.
