I grew up playing piano and have not had a regular piano to play since moving from home after High school graduation 10 years ago. I am looking into buying either the Yamaha C113t (Indonesian made) or the Japanese made Kawai K3. I have read online that
Japanese made is better quality but a little more money. In this case it would cost me about $800 more for the Kawai. Is it worth it? I would like my kids to take piano and have a piano that lasts me a long long long time. They both sound great to me in the store. Or should I save my money and go with the Yamaha? Thanks for your help!!

You should really let your fingers and ears make the decision. Most Kawais have a really nice action and deeper sound. However Yamaha's action is a little lighter and it's sound is a little more bright. Since your considering the Kawai K-3 which is 48 inch. Have you tried playing a Yamaha U-1? It is also 48 inches and a nice piano.

Hope this helps.

It's not so much a quality issue as a size issue. The K3 is 121cm whereas the C113 is 113cm. You should be able to notice a fair difference in the tone. I found the tone of the C113 to be horribly bright and tinny.

I'd certainly recommend getting a piano at least 121cm. Did you try a Yamaha T121? Should be close in price to the K3 and same size.
