I had an old Kawai 500 where the middle pedal did not work. I took the action out, and found that the wire loop that goes to the monkey had slipped out of the sostenuto bar. I put it back and added a couple of drops of CA glue. Maybe it will hold.

I've done that repair before with no complaints, so I assume it held.

Hard to know, since many people never use that pedal. It is a shame, because unlike some of the other pedals, it can be useful.

By what else??? Angels of course!

Agreed. Aside from using it amid playing, I find it *most* useful during tuning.

As I strive to learn to play without the damper pedal, I regret that I am not anywhere near mastering the use of the sostenuto pedal.

Well if it requires angels, we won't have much luck finding them here!

The way we drive around here, how do you know you're not talking to one at any given moment?

For those of us so far away, what's this angel(angle)shot technique? Is it more than tapping the hammer to bring it up?

I have a lovely weighted needle tool with a flat on the back of the handle for just this.

Some of us on this side of the pond wonder what the angle technique is, too. Sigh... It's like asking about a henway!

About 4 to 6 pounds. it is an old Marx Bros routine...

Ah, I finally got someone to bite on the henway gag. I've tried a couple of times before. But 4 to 6 pounds would be quite a hen. About 2 pounds is more like it.

So while I was over on Salt Spring Island last year I decided to try some of the local products grown there.

The meat hens sold on SSI are allowed to run around all over the place. Some even fly if they are not too lazy. Funny thing I learned about meat hens; you have to place the water at the opposite end of the coop so these birds will get some exercise otherwise they just stand and eat and drink without moving.

The grower let a couple of them go for 10 weeks instead of the usual 8 weeks and one was 8.5 lbs….reminded me of a broiler turkey. Darn fine meal too… a few times… got another one in the freezer that is 7.6 lbs.

She said these two could barely walk….. Most were between 4- 6 pounds. This is all I know....

Sorry, I cannot answer the angel shot technique as that is one voicing class that I did not attend and if I did, I can't remember it!!!

Just came from Budapest, went there to buy 5 uprights for partial restoration and later for sale. Spent 24 hours on the road, tired, but happy.

Don't feel too bad. I was beginning to think an angel shot was something you did in a bar with a napkin tied round your head.

Drove 250 miles, did a partial reg on a grand, a partial reg on a studio upright, and replaced three broken plastic pedal pivots.
