Hmm, I keep on getting 'access denied' on all kinds of threads on PW, except this one.

Here's Slowdive, one of my favourite 'shoe-gazing' bands of the 90s... They worked with Eno and others.

Great tunes, lovely lush production... Just for a Day and Souvlaki are two of my favourite albums.

Currently working on: F. Couperin - Preludes & Sweelinck - Fantasia Chromatica

I know this is Griffin's job, but I'll get one up to start things. I've been listening to this a lot lately.

I'll figure it out eventually.
Until then you may want to keep a safe distance.

Access denied? Eglantine? after you contributed as well!!!! Wonder what is happening?
Thats very odd, lets hope no one gets access denied here!!!

I found out today what the origin of the word "occupy" is and, its extremely funny.

BTW, re Slowdive, don't let the descriptor 'shoe-gazing' put you off. They were kind of a match for My Bloody Valentine, but in my books better. All those labels... Not good. The music, the albums, are just lovely.

Right, I'm doing budget trip to Istanbul this spring - free flight from ancient air miles that were about to pop their clogs, I just have to find accommodation now. Where should I stay? All advice welcome. Need to book pronto. I've been to Turkey before, but not to Istanbul.

Good morning everyone! Beautiful Vivaldi LBE! Please feel free to post more today and any day. I really don't like being the only one doing classical Sunday postings. It just turned out that way last week. So please join in one and all!

I'll be back in just a bit with my first post.

Good morning Griffin, sorry but you are the sunday post grand master!!!

Eglantine, it fell out of "polite usage" at one time, because er well, have a look here its only four lines to read....

Are you occupying yourself?

Good morning Rossy! Sunday post grand master is an awesome title. I hope I can live up to it! laugh

Here is my first post. It is Hilary Hahn performing the first movement of the the Violin Concerto by J. Sibelius. Enjoy!

I can't seem to get enough of the Baroque duets of trumpet virtuoso Wynton Marsalis and soprano Kathleen Battle. Here they perform "Su le sponde del Tebro" by Alessandro Scarlatti. BTW, the entire Marsalis-Battle is a gem in my humble opinion! smile

Morning all. Ah yes Rossy the Swan dive. Us clumsy ones are all familar with that one. It takes a lot of talent to pull of such absolute lack of grace stunts without killing oneself. grin

This matches my mood today:

Thats one of my most favourites beccaBb, many folk dont post Tchaikovsky, i think it may be because its more difficult to spell than rach. This is a wonerfull piano concerto, especially when the octaves double. Brilliant. Thanks.

Gorgeous posting Becca! I've always loved this one too. Rossy is right about the trickiness of spelling the composer's last name. Tchaikovsky is spelled properly on my post because I have a smart spell checker grin

It's much easier for me to spell Bach! Here is guitarist John Williams performing "Concerto No. 2 In E Major Bwv 1042".

I. Allegro

II. Adagio

III. Allegro Assai

My dad was a Tchaikovsky addict (among others). Every Sunday was "classical Sunday", meaning that the music played from 7:00 am until he went to bed late at night. I can still whistle along to pretty much every Tchaikovsky record I've inherited from him. Oh, so much precious vinyl smile
This one was one of my favorites:

I can also whistle along to every military march every written prior to 1972..... that's what dad played on the radio while driving me to school.

Unrealistic expectations:
Beethoven rondo op 51 no 1
Mozart Sonata No. 7 in C major
Beethoven OP 27 No 1

Absolutely must do:
Learn to sight read
Learn music theory
Re-learn ONE piece to at least almost perfection. (Mary had a little lamb?)

Tried to sight-read this today. It didn't sound this good, but I enjoyed it all the same.

I'm really in the mood for some good choral music. I'm hoping some of you will share what you have. I love choral music. However, i have not had much time to listen to new things. I'll leave you with this "Ave Maria" by Canadian composer Nathaniel Dett. I posted it a while back. Enjoy!
