Quite interesting. They've finally added a delay. I am always using a delay on the Rhodes in addition to tremolo. If they've improved the keyboard that would make it even more desirable instrument smile

P.S. Ohh, you can put all the samples from their Nord Sample Library, not just the Piano Library. If that piano is the same price as Nord Piano 1, that would be a killer gigging machine!

That's quite a short product cycle for a DP. I got my NP88 for less than a year. Anyways it appears the NP88 v2 won't make the first version obsolete yet.

Very interesting indeed!! Nord have certainly been rather busy with the NP2, C2D, and the Nord Drum all being announced at NAMM2012!

I had that split-second pinch of "OMG, why did I get the stage?" question pop in my head, but remembered the Synth and Organ sections are certainly keepers for me. Had I not gone with those, it'd certainly have been an interesting proposition.

One thing that has to be remembered about the Nord Sample Library - it's only single-layer velocity samples, so "expressive" playing is not something that comes easily with it. I can't use it for playing bass lines because I can't get that "slap" when I need it (not from the keyboard at least :p ). However, the added sample library support is definitely a nice addition..

I wonder if we'll see an update to the Piano Library coinciding with the new products........... fingers crossed for another nice Grand and a long-overdue update to the EP's.

Blimey. I was wrong. Nord Piano 1 is perhaps discontinued now. I'll be interested to see what else is on offer with NP-II because from the brief info on the link it would seem very little.

Hardly seems worth the trouble for Nord to produce this new piano. It seems like there is little change to the hardware. It's more of a facelift designed to look like a new product. It would have been better if they kept the NP and added a new one with a point of difference, like a premium action and more memory.

nerdgasms?...nerdgasms?... grin

Millions of them look like that. If they weren't supposed to. They'd all look like Elton John. smile ha

I do wonder if the Nord booth at NAMM has girls wearing red dresses?

It does appear to me that Nord is doing a good job of leading, and listening to the needs of pro's.

Getting back to the actual product...

Nord has had to tread a very fine line with both this and the new C2D organ, IMO. They definitely do NOT want to undermine the Electro or (even more so) Stage ranges.

From my own perspective, the NP2 would be worth getting. Most of my work is solo piano engagements, for which my current model is great. But there are times, mostly on band gigs, when it would be nice to have the option of a pad behind the piano, playing left hand bass or even adding the odd brass stab etc.

So up until now, there has been a part of me thinking that I should move up to the Stage 2. However, I don't need extensive synth sound creation and I definitely never want to play organ on a weighted keyboard. I also vastly prefer the NP action over the Stage.

So the NP2 has effectively killed off my GAS for the Stage, and could also mean I could lose the Kurzweil PC3 LE7, which has been frankly severely underused since its acquisition but which at the moment I need to retain for the occasional job where some of the above functions are not just desirable, but essential.

Scratching my head...pondering selling my NP88 and Electro 3 since I rarely use the NE3 61 but for certain gigs, and I never use the organ. Got some thinking to do, but have plenty of time as this NP2 won't be available for sale for a few months.

Don't count on it, Zach. Soundtech, Nord's UK distributor, are saying shipping January on this one!

I know it seems unlikely but a premium action and more memory as ando says would really make the NP beat all-comers. I assume the Fatar wooden action would slip straight in with little or no modification - although I'm not sure even that would qualify for the title "premium action".

Yes, good point Aidan. The Nord is a gigging musician's dream at the moment in terms of portability and they probably wouldn't want to upset that sizeable market.

And I still say they should release a Nord Piano rack.

Well, I think I will sell my NP88 and NE3 to get the NP2 because the more I think about it, the more I talk myself into the NP2 with its split/layer functionality. I too play A LOT of solo piano gigs and it would be great to have the split/layering. Any ideas on price?? Probably in the $2899 range?? This GAS for all things Nord is a bad case I'm afraid... wink
