Does anyone integrate the iPad, computers, technology etc. in their piano lessons? I've noticed a trend of teachers adding 15 min to 1/2 an hour of student directed computer lab time. Is it working? What are the benefits of a studio that uses technology compared to one that does not? I'd love to hear from you because we are adding Music Tech Time to our piano lessons starting next week and our students are really excited.

I use the iPad often for flashcards, rhythm games, looking up things on Youtube, and grabbing scores off IMSLP (and then immediately emailing them to my students). I've used GarageBand to record and play back as well.

My 5 favorite ipad applications are:

1. PianoFlash! Develop by Marcus Cavanaugh
2. Key Signature Quiz Free by Jason Neufeld
3. www.FlashnoteDerbyApp.com
4. Musical Ears by Currach Software
5. Piano Tutor by Smileyapps.com

I use ipad during lesson time between playing pieces from method book as "treat" and "break" from piano. Students really like it.

I use the iPad a lot for music. The apps I use in teaching are:

Piano Notes Pro (formerly Note Goal Pro)
Rhythm Sight Reading Trainer
Music Flash Class
Goodreader (for downloading scores from imslp)
Dropbox (downloading, displaying and emailing PDFs of my newer compositions)
YouTube

I use the first three as convenient tools for quickly generating random tests within definable parameters. I don't bother with the onscreen keyboards or buttons - I make the student play the notes on the piano, clap the rhythms or say the note names, and I move the tests on as appropriate.
