Hi:

I considering buying a 3 year old Yahama grand piano that was bought new.

The owner said that the piano has never been tuned.

So, the piano has settled without any tunings....

Will this be a problem? Will it need any special work if/when I get it?

Thanks

There's probably no damage, just a lot of deferred maintenance. It will probably take three or four tunings over the next year for it to stabilize. And if it hasn't been played, there may be a few minor problems that need to be addressed, like sticky keys, which typically get taken care of in the first service of a new piano.

Cy is right on. Just budget about $400-$600 for service in the 1st year you have the pianos. And about $200-$300 each year thereafter.

Have you asked why the piano is being sold?

I'll guess they purchased another piece of furniture.

Thanks for your replies.

They just never used it. Tuned only once in the last 3 years.

A technician looked at it and said the piano was flat.
Needed pitch raised.

Anyone know what prep work is needed on an almost new Yamaha, and how much it will cost?

Thanks

Tuning and regulation. The cost will depend on local rates and how much it needs.
