Just discovered this today:

http://www.npr.org/2011/09/26/140504948/jenny-lin-tiny-desk-concert

Classical pianist Jenny Lin performing on a Korg M3. Sound is captured with NPR's high quality mics (not, in other words, captured directly from the board).

Repertoire: (i) Dmitri Shostakovich: Prelude and Fugue No. 2 in A minor, Op. 87; (ii) Dmitri Shostakovich: Prelude and Fugue No. 7 in A major, Op. 87; (iii) Federico Mompou: Musica Callada — Nos. 1, 15; and (iii) Gershwin (arr. Earl Wild): "Fascinatin' Rhythm."

If you are aware of similar demonstrations of virtuosity on a DP, I (and I suspect others) would love to hear about them.

Great performance, great pianist. Sounds a bit kind of chubby and boxy and the notes don't exactly ring out, but even so.....

All our talk about tiny differences between Rolands, Yamahas and Kawais, there appears to be a lesson in this. Which is probably 'Shut(TF)up and practice your piano'.

GALAXY PIANOS TUTORIAL: "CLASSICAL GRAND PIANOS"

http://www.galaxypianos.com/media/tutorial4.php

This is an 8 minute video by one of the developers, and this guy can play. He plays excerpts of Beethoven and Ravel on each of the Galaxy pianos.

Wow, those Galaxy pianos are brilliant. No detectable artefacts to ruin the illusion of an acoustic piano at all. I must have a go at playing one of these.

I'd kill for his hands!!!!!!!

I'd hate to think how much that setup would cost!

Yeah, decent hands are getting pretty pricey these days... wink

I'd rather have his speaking voice.

Yes, a great controller indeed. Not as good as the MP10 of course. The way the chap said vice versa was epic.

I almost broke out in hives seeing that Kontakt logo. Back when I was using it the note stealing algorithm was pretty poor, and there was no non-real-time rendering option which caused me all kinds of headaches. I hate the look-and-feel of their UI, too much like Adobe apps.

The pianos and reverbs sound really nice, and that resonance is gorgeous. What I wouldn't give to get these sounds and adjustments built-in to, say, oh I don't know, maybe a DIGITAL PIANO?!?!

Wow thanks the post on the Galaxy piano's, they sound absolutely amazing. I am thinking along the lines of using a dedicated pc/mac just to run this sample set. I have not played Ivory personally but based on numerous recommendations on this great site I am swaying towards the Vintage D.

If you buy it, be sure to get the physical discs, rather than the Internet download -- not because there's any difference in the data, but because the download is only available for 120 hrs after purchase, and over time you end up with a mishmash of files, as a result of updates. I'm simply not organized enough to keep good track of all that stuff, especially when some of the updated files have the very same name as the files they replace.

Now, having said that, my attempt to purchase the three Galaxy grands last night from Best Service triggered fraud alerts on two credit cards, apparently because the transaction is handled out of Germany. I wish Amazon sold the Galaxy pianos. I ultimately purchased the set of three grands from a vendor in Florida that pops up on Google.

But, really, this is all simply to warn you to have patience with the purchase and install. It's rather idiosyncratic.

Great demo. I like their attention to detail - I especially like the "low keys" fader and the Tone Colour controls.

Greg.
