Hello,
I have run into a lot of students lately who generally play well but are not used to playing with a metronome. How do you get an intermediate student used to playing with a metronome?
Generally, one of my biggest problems is that kids just tune the thing out and play along at their own speed regardless of the click.
How simple should I make it, and how much time should I spend on it? Will they just get used to it with time, or is remedial work necessary?

You know, Monaco, there's a dent and bare spot on my piano from where the pencil keeps time. I could and do clap; I make them clap; I make them count out loud (really, really hard when dealing with teens); I have them count out loud while I play, and I have the metronome running so they can check themselves at the same time. Does all this help? A little! [Linked Image]
