We all can get pretty intense over piano sounds, actions, player connections, etc.- but the bottom line to me is that the player, the music and end result are always more important then the tool.

These are friends of mine-Janelle Sadler on vocals and her husband Robin Swenson on piano.

So guess the digital piano/synth/keyboard Robin is playing here--I think everyone will be quite surprised. I know I was when he told me what he used on this CD.

EDIT:
sorry I had to remove the link-the amount of people downloading the file was putting me over my *free limit* that divshare allows....

Thank you for that.

Fresh arrangement of what is IMO at best a so-so song ("Heart of me"? Puhleez). Singer is good, but her accompanist is beyond good, he's wonderful. Terrific playing, changes, voicings. Obviously Swenson is a masterful and creative musician. What instrument is he playing?

Hey Dave, great stuff...

Your vocalist reminds me a bit of Diana Krall, and, that's a nice style.

Very well done!

Yes both Rob & Jannelle are terrific, glad you enjoyed it. But that's the title of thread--guess the piano.

Thanks pv88 but again her husband Robin is playing piano here. But Janelle and I have worked together quite often over the years.

I really don't hear much of an attack from the piano, was it compressed a great deal?

I would hesitate to make a guess. Since the piano sounded in tune I would think we could rule out an acoustic but severely compressing a perfectly in tune acoustic might make it sound the same way.

It's hard to tell the piano manufacturer from the recording. To my ears the DP in the recoding wouldn't sound good as a stand alone instrument, but it sits in the mix very nicely. I would guess it's either a Yamaha, Casio, or possibly Studiologic.

This sounds a bit Kurzweil-ish to me too.

Good ears. Steve nailed it first and then it became I guess all too obvious to Kurz owners. Yes it's the older PC2X he used here.

Another keyboard player friend of mine is selling his PC3X for $1400, he just bought the Kronos 73. If it wasn't 54 lbs. I might buy it....

Too good for the K250. smile (I'm not intimately familiar with the more recent Kurzies though, and would have had no chance of guessing this) Sounds good.

Greg.
